Dzemael Darkhold FFXIV Dungeon Guide
So you are looking to make your way through Dzemael Darkhold in FFXIV. There are some challenging fights that await you, but with this guide we will show you what you need to do in order to survive the battles to come.
The Dzemael Darkhold in FFXIV
So what is the Dzemael Darkhold exactly? Well, it’s a dungeon, introduced in FFXIV patch 2.0, that can be unlocked by players after reaching level 44. Currently, there are two ways to unlock the dungeon; starting the quest Fort of Fear by going to Carrilaut in Coerthas Central Highlands, or doing the quest Shadows Uncast by becoming Sergeant First Class of your Grand Company before speaking to the commander.
The All-Seeing Eye
When you and your allies get into the Darkhold dungeon you will be facing off with the All-Seeing Eye. This floating eye serves as one of the bosses in the dungeon that you are going to have to do battle with, but not just yet. Before this, it will be floating around the area and hitting you with area of effect attacks. If you want to avoid this damage, then look for the crystal veil. You can find this glowing purple crystal nearby, and it will help to cut down the damage that you receive.
If you want to move to the next area, then you and your group will need to make use of the Magitek Terminals that you find in different locations as you progress. As you get to the blue circle, you can get a party member to go and stand on it. This will open a door for you to go through. Just make sure that you clear the area first from any monsters, and be sure to look out for traps as well.
You will eventually fight the All-Seeing Eye as the first boss of the dungeon. Odds are it has been proving to be quite a nuisance already So it’s time for us to put it down for good. The weakness of this boss is the crystal veil that we mentioned earlier. With that in mind, keep your group as close to it as possible.
Adds will also make appearances in this battle. The DPS player should be able to take them out pretty easily, so they can go back to concentrating on the boss again. Have the tank take as much of the aggression from the boss as possible and stay close to the crystal veil. Be ready to move fast when its affect disappears after a couple of minutes.
The dungeon’s second boss is going to be Taulurd. Believe it or not, this is actually a fairly easier fight than the last one. There’s less mechanics you have to deal with with this boss. Have your tank get to grips with the Double Smash frontal cone attack. Once it’s at half health, Taulurd will start performing an improved frontal cone AOE attack called Elbon Drop.
Another thing that you need to keep an eye out for is the minions that Taulurd has, who will be throwing rocks in your direction. This is something that will have you on the move throughout the fight. You will get a visual cue for where the rocks are going to land, so keep an eye out for a red circle. Their goal is to make life as difficult as possible for you, so be sure to keep moving as much as you can.
The main boss of this dungeon is Batraal. So as to be expected, this is going to be a lot tougher than the previous battles we’ve had. With more mechanics at their disposal, you can expect a hard fight ahead of you.
One of the first things that you will notice is that Batraal will link himself to the crystals that are in the room. This is where your DPS needs to intervene and get rid of the crystals. Otherwise, the boss will become invulnerable if they are attached to the crystal for an extended period of time.
The main aspect you need to look out for is the Desolation attack, which is a frontal line attack. If you or any member of your group are hit by this, then it can kill you. Thankfully, there is another visual cue that we can look out for. Keep watch for the boss casting it, and it will give you and your team the time it needs to get out of dodge.
Once you have gotten Batraal’s health down below 30%, it will start casting a purple puddle that dishes out AOE damage if you stand on it. Be careful in this stage as Batraal will have become stronger at this point as well.
Conclusion on Dzemael Darkhold
Going through a dungeon in FFXIV can be a nervous experience if you are going to do it the first time. In fact, even when you’re a seasoned veteran it can be tricky if you are playing with random players. If you don’t have the luxury of playing with friends, then at least you now have the options of the Trust System.
This system opens up the option for you to go through dungeons with story characters that are controlled by AI rather than other players. As you can imagine, this brings about a lot of benefits for solo players who want to captain their own ship when navigating through the game’s dungeon. It also gives you a platform to practice going through dungeons before starting to play with real players. You have to start somewhere, and this is a great method to get to grips with how the systems work before venturing into them with others.
Hopefully you have been able to navigate through the FFXIV Dzemael Darkhold dungeon with the help of this guide. There’s three tricky boss fights to contend with, but nothing you won’t be able to handle if you are quick enough.
