Going Onto Ventures: An FFXIV Ventures Guide
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. However, in Final Fantasy XIV, your trusty retainers can’t venture without FFXIV venture tokens (coins). To help you out with that, we’re telling you how to get your hands on this in-game currency. That way, you can send them off adventuring, and bring home solid rewards in turn!
How do I Unlock Ventures?
For those who are only encountering all of this now, here’s something to get you up to speed. In FFXIV, the Ventures are a form of content that you send your retainers to. For this to be unlocked, you need to finish the level 17 quest An Ill-Conceived Venture. This is initiated by talking to the Troubled Adventurer, which can be found in any of the three major cities.
Once you’re done with that, congratulations! Your retainer can now go on adventures of its own, and would bring home something good if they’re successful.
How do I Get Venture Tokens?
Venture Tokens aren’t exactly as readily available as Gil, but there are all sorts of ways to get them. The most common way to get them is through the Grand Company vendor. Upon reaching Private Third Class rank, you can start buying them for 200 seals each. You can also get them through Beast Tribe Quests and Guildleves.
What about my Retainer Ventures?
However, don’t think that Ventures are as simple as sending your Retainer out and waiting until he or she comes home. In fact, there are a number of things to consider. First would be the fact that your Retainer will have a class and gear. They also gain experience from the ventures you send them to. So if you’re not interested in the material gains of ventures, perhaps you can treat leveling your retainers up as the incentive instead. For that, you can assign them as a Disciple of War or Magic, or even a Disciple of the Land. This will determine what kind of item they’ll get you at the end of the venture.
Do note, however, that your retainer can only have the same classes you’ve already unlocked. Also, while they themselves gain levels, they cannot exceed your level for a particular class. Lastly, if you haven’t capped a particular class, your retainer’s level will be capped at five levels lower than your current one. So if you plan on doing a lot of venturing, you better work on the classes you want your retainer to have first.
What are the Different Kinds of Ventures in FFXIV?
There are different types of ventures, and whether you can get a specific or random item depends on the kind of venture they’ll be undertaking. There’s hunting, mining, botany, and fishing, which lasts an hour and allows you to specify the item you’ll be getting. They’re pretty much self-explanatory and are done as their namesake Disciple of Land class, save for hunting, which is done as a Disciple of War or Magic and yields specific monster drops.
Meanwhile, for explorations, rewards are random and the duration is much longer. If you want to know how long it’s going to take until your retainer returns, check out the Timers tab.
There are five kinds: field (hunting), highland (mining), woodland (botany), waterside (fishing), and quick exploration. The last one, however, is pretty much different, as it has a completely random item. This can range from dyes to furniture to even endgame gear. Sometimes, you can even get furniture, which can be worth up to a million Gil if you’re lucky!
