Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date Delays and Death Threats

Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date Delays
By | October 29th, 2020 | Categories: News

Ever since video games became big-production affairs in the PS3-Xbox 360-Wii era, game delays had become more common. So when delays in the current gaming scene happen, people aren’t exactly surprised. That, however, doesn’t mean that delays aren’t understandable. You know the latest case of this, samurai: it’s no other than a Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay.

When is Cyberpunk 2077’s release date pushed to?

The ambitious futuristic role-playing first-person shooter, which is being developed by the equally ambitious and acclaimed Polish studio CD Projekt Red of Witcher trilogy fame, was delayed again. This is the third time the game was delayed. The initial release date was in April but was moved to November 19 because it coincided with the peak of the CoViD-19 pandemic.

The date they’ve chosen is not random, as that is when the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be released. Unfortunately, Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date has been pushed back to December 10. This is despite the fact that the game has gone gold, meaning that the development is already finished and can now hit shelves. CD Projekt Red has explained that a game going gold doesn’t mean that they are completely done working on it. Rather, the time after a game has gone gold but before its release is when they do playtesting, finishing, and polishing.

They also promised that there will be much to do in Night City, which means tons of fun will also be had, and that they wanted this to be their crowning achievement this generation. Last but definitely not least, CD Projekt Red has also explained how important the game is to them and how much it has to offer. With Witcher 3–which was also delayed a couple of times–having loads of gameplay and narrative content, the Polish studio’s track record speaks for itself.

Why Has Cyberpunk 2077’s Release Date Faced Delays This Time?

Many theories came up for the release date being pushed back this time, but the prevailing theory is that the game is already fine on PCs and next-gen consoles, and that the issue is with current-gen ones. It’s a rather understandable problem, as the game is meant to be more stunning and richer in content than other games, especially that of its genre.

Plus, the game is meant to be a bridge between the two generations, as buying a copy of the game on a particular platform will give you a free next-gen version on the platform’s successor. This means that it will be pushing the envelope of what is now considered older tech, which is definitely not an easy feat.

What Has Been the Improper Response of Some Fans?

While most gamers were disappointed yet understanding of Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date delay, there are some that weren’t. Not putting your feet in the developers’ shoes isn’t the best response to the news, but unfortunately, it isn’t the worst, as there were those that sent death threats to the devs just because of the delays.

Let’s face it, the game devs aren’t at fault for delaying the game. But on top of that: It’s very unbecoming of gamers to go as far as wish death on people that are simply doing their job is an understatement. There is no reason for anyone to send death threats, period. Not to say that gaming hasn’t become a huge part of people’s lives, but people need to have not only perspective but also decency.

In response to the messages that they’ve received, devs from CD Projekt Red are asking for human decency. Surely, that is not too much to give to the people that will bring to life the vision of a cool yet dystopian tomorrow today. Besides, the cyberpunk genre is always all about humanity, and sending death threats is always a greater loss of one’s humanity than having cybernetic implants.

Conclusion

So, how are you taking this latest delay, samurai? Don’t worry, we know you’re not so immature as to send devs death threats. Delays suck, but hey, December isn’t that far off anyway when you think about it. If there won’t be any delays after this, then it’s safe to say that the Cyberpunk 2077 release date is sooner than we all think.
