Naga Siren is one of the most versatile heroes that DOTA 2 has released. With her hypnotic vocals, she can quickly turn the tide of the match in your favor. While she does have a huge impact on the game, you must maximize her to the fullest extent by buying the correct items and executing abilities flawlessly at the right time. She is a formidable carry in her own right, and this DOTA 2 Naga Siren guide will help players unlock her potential.

So without further adieu, let’s dive into the article and take a look at how she should be used throughout the game.

Naga Siren’s Playstyle

While Naga Siren can be used to fill the Support role, she works best when played as a Hard Carry due to her fast farming skills. As a Carry, you should rely on her Mirror Image to create illusions that’ll help you farm multiple jungle camps and lanes simultaneously while also scouting out fogged territory. Even if you do get ambushed at any stage of the game, you can use her ult as a get-out-jail-free card and teleport yourself out of danger.

Understanding Naga Siren’s Abilities

Before we dive deep into the most optimal build for Naga Siren, let us first look at her abilities in detail. Learning which abilities to max out first can be crucial in getting an upper hand on your opponent.

Mirror Image

Mirror Image creates three illusions of Naga that she can directly control. While casting this ability, Naga Siren is invulnerable, hidden, and immune to any sort of damage or incoming enemy projectiles. Once activated, Mirror Image also rids naga of any debuffs plaguing her.

Mirror image can be combined with Rip Tide to boost up your farming and gain an edge over the enemy carry.

Ensnare

Naga’s second ability, Ensnarem can be used to interrupt and trap the enemy for a short duration of time. It prevents your foes from moving or casting any sort of mobility abilities like a Slark pounce or a blink out. The best part about this is that the nearby illusions also cast a fake Ensnare so the real Naga Siren doesn’t get ratted out.

Rip Tide

Rip Tide is Naga’s passive ability that, after every six attacks, allows Naga and her illusions to hit the enemies with a wave of water, causing damage and reducing armor. It is recommended to max out this ability as soon as you can since not only does it complement Naga Siren’s other abilities, but also allows you to farm incredibly fast.

Song Of The Siren (Ultimate)

Naga’s ultimate allows her to capture enemies in a magical stasis, rendering them stationary and putting them in a temporary state of sleep. While they’re halted in their tracks, enemies will be invulnerable and won’t take any sort of damage. However, there are certain situations you should reserve this ultimate for

  • Escaping while Jungling if the enemies catch up to you
  • Denying enemy attacks on your towers
  • Helping your team position properly before initiating a fight

Generally, you’ll want enough mana on you to safely use Song of the Siren while farming so pay attention to your mana pool and bring clarities to make up for it.

Naga Siren Build Guide

Naga can be a tough hero to master both mechanically and strategically. However, an adequate understanding of the required skills and items can turn the game around in your favor. To make it easier for you, we’ve compiled a guide that covers an optimal Naga Siren build as a Carry, from the basic game mechanics and itemization skills to some general tips.

Basic Skills

If you’re trying to get yourself accustomed to Naga Siren, here are some things you should keep in mind that will help you learn the hero and pull off those game-changing plays:

Laning And Farming

When the game begins, start in the Safelane with Naga and try reaching at least 50 last hits by the first 10 minutes of the game. If your lane isn’t going well, you can always switch to the jungle and recover the lost farm. Moreover, as a Naga, it’s recommended to make your way into the jungle around the 8 to 10-minute mark, and only use your illusions to farm and push out the lane.

You should also make sure to come back to the lane and aggress the enemy tower if the enemy heroes have teleported out to make a gank. This way you can take advantage of their absence and amp up your farm and XP.

Hot-keying

Hotkeys are a vital part of Dota 2 and will definitely help make your gameplay more efficient. It’s recommended to set hotkeys to select your hero, all units under your control, or all units except your main hero.

It’s generally preferred to use TAB to select all units, 1 to select your hero, and 2 to select all the illusions under your control. You can also configure 3 to cycle between your illusions once you’ve played a fair ton of games on Naga Siren.

Mastering the hotkeys will allow you to amp up your farm speed and clear out the whole jungle within a minute.

Creep Stacking

Stacking creeps can remarkably increase farming speed early-game. Neutral Creeps spawn in the Jungle at every minute mark. To stack a camp, you can either attack a unit in the camp or simply walk close to it so that it aggresses on you. Then, walk outside the camp box and make sure the neutral creep follows you outside when the timer hits a minute.

The neutral creeps will chase you for a few seconds. Generally, most camps can be stacked by hitting the neutral creep at 54 seconds and running away while they’re chasing after you. Once you get the hang of it, you can micro your illusions to stack the camp as well.

Early To Mid Game

When playing the role of Hard Carry, Naga needs to farm continuously until she’s six-slotted. Once the laning phase ends, you need to head over to the jungle and start clearing out neutral creeps using your illusions. Here are some early to mid-game items you should aim for:

Quelling Blade: A Quelling Blade is the perfect start item for any melee carry as it significantly increases your attack damage against creeps.

Power Treads: Since you’ll be rushing gold-heavy items early on, this is the only stat item you can afford to make. Set them to agility to squeeze out some extra attack speed and damage.

Manta Style: Most games will need you to rush Manta Style as soon as you finish with Power treads. Manta Styles adds to your illusion kit and can also be used as a backup when your Mirror Images die.

Diffusal Blade: The choice of making this item depends on the enemy’s draft. The item fares really well against mana-dependant heroes and squishy supports. It also allows you to save up and later stack your Ensnare while the enemy is slowed down.

Radiance: Radiance’s burn effect is applied to all of Naga’s illusions, making it a great way to chip down on squishy supports. It’s also great against blink-dependant heroes like Tinker who tend to escape away before you can lay your hands on them.

Late Game

After the 25 to the 30-minute mark, we enter the late game phase. This is when Naga Siren really comes online and becomes a massive threat. By this time, if you have been following this guide, you will essentially be invincible in the lobby with no way for enemies to hard counter you.

In the late game, you should aim to be six-slotted, and fully at least level 25 on the hero. Amidst fights, you can use Naga’s ultimate to pull your team out from positions of disadvantage or can use it to gain an upper hand on them. Nevertheless, you should aim for the following items by the end:

Octarine Core: This reduces the cooldown on all of Naga’s abilities and comes in pretty handy to quickly dish out illusions, spam ensnare, and get your ultimate back online after a fight.

Butterfly: If you’re faced with right-clicking enemy carries then getting a Butterfly is essential. It not only provides you with evasion, attack speed, and armor but also reflects on your illusions.

Heart Of Tarrasque: If you feel your Naga is squishy against enemy attacks, then you can get yourself a HOT. The item allows you to regenerate quickly and keep fighting long, drawn-out battles.

Eye Of Skadi: When faced with heroes like Morphling or Life Stealer who have incredible life-stealing and regenerative capabilities, getting an Eye Of Skadi is crucial. It not only gives you stats and slows down enemies when attacked but also placed a debuff on the enemy which reduces their lifesteal and HP regeneration by 40%.

General Tips

Apart from following the item build and understanding Naga Siren’s spells, here are some general tips that can help you along the way:

  • Make sure to utilize Naga’s illusions using hotkeys to maximize your farm and XP output
  • If you completely isolate yourself from the game, your team will eventually suffer. So make sure you’re always there to provide the necessary damage your team requires in fights
  • Utilizing Naga’s ability to push all lanes at once makes her a formidable Carry to play against.
  • Remember, you can join team fights as Naga, but it is not advisable to teleport to a fight to help your team. Only use it to run away from the jungle if you can’t fight the enemy solo. Once you commit teleport, you will be stuck in that area of the map for a while and will have to compete with your teammates for the farm.

Conclusion

From protecting your team to helping them push towers, Naga Siren has got all the moves it takes to be called a complete Carry in Dota 2. Once you’ve farmed well enough, she can be a weapon of mass destruction capable of inflicting chaos inside the enemy ranks. As always, we hope you enjoyed this guide.
