Chronicles of Elyria Review: An MMORPG of Life and Death
Every now and then, a release comes along that manages to break the prevailing norms in the gaming world. Regardless of genre constrictions, they are able to stretch the boundaries of what games are, and as a result, they truly give players an experience to remember. Chronicles of Elyria is one such game that promises to be all that and then some. Folks, get ready for a life-changing MMORPG.
This is the definitive Chronicles of Elyria Review.
What separates Chronicles of Elyria from other MMORPGs?
If there’s one thing about Chronicles of Elyria that promises to make it stand apart from the rest of the MMORPG pack, it’s the fact that it will feature a life and death component to player characters. Instead of an ageless character to take you through your journey in the game, you’ll get one that ages and eventually dies. Yes, you read that right. Don’t fret, though, because your character will be “reincarnated” in a way.
The mere fact that your character(s) will go through their own life cycles gives players a chance to have a deeper connection with them. You’ll spend considerable amounts of time raising their stats, growing them, watching them get stronger, and seeing them succumb to the ravages of time. Sentimentality can be a good thing too in this sense. Every “death” your character(s) go through will serve to strengthen the bond between avatar and player while adding a unique kind of depth to the overall gameplay.
Is there anything else to look forward to?
However, relax. Don’t fret too much about character deaths. All the learnings (farming, combat, mining) your character(s) accumulate over time will be carried to the next one so players won’t be at a complete loss. Basically, it’ll almost be like Doctor Who. Think of it as an endless cycle of regenerations where your avatar routinely morphs into a completely new one that’s armed with the knowledge of its predecessors.
Chronicles of Elyria’s gameplay will also up the ante with regards to realism. They’ll do this in such a way where players can only get what they see. What we mean by that is that if, for instance, you engage a monster in combat, items you can expect to loot afterward will only be the ones that the monster actually carries. You won’t be left wondering where random weapons or rare items came from when they clearly weren’t there a while ago. A smart twist for sure.

Not Your Everyday, Garden-Variety MMORPG
Chronicles of Elyria is a prime example of a successful kickstarter. Historically, games that start from this method have, at best, been hit or miss. With Chronicles of Elyria, however, funding has never been scarce. It is yet another example of how well-received it is in the gaming world and how much people are anticipating its inevitable release. It isn’t your run-in-the-mill MMORPG.
