The 5 Best Raids to Farm for Gold in WoW
There’s no doubt that World of Warcraft has changed so much over the last couple of years, that it’s virtually a different game now. However, one thing that remains unchanged is soloing old dungeons for profit and that’s why today we’re focusing on the Best Raids to Farm for Gold in WoW.
Whether we’re talking about Mists of Pandaria, Cataclysm or even Wrath of the Lich King raids, you’ll be able to acquire hefty amounts of gold without spending unhealthy amounts of time farming these old-world instances. So, without further ado, let’s get started
What the are top 5 old dungeons to farm for gold (solo-style)?
- Throne of Thunder 25H (Mists of Pandaria)
- FireLands 25H (Cataclysm)
- Blackwing Descent 25H (Cataclysm)
- MoGu’shan Vaults (Mists of Pandaria)
- Trial of the Crusader 25H (Wrath of the Lich King)
1. Throne of Thunder 25H (Mists of Pandaria)
- Location: Isle Of Thunder (northwest of Kun-Lai Summit, Pandaria)
- Time to complete: around 40 minutes
- Average profit: 3,238 gold
Introduced back in patch 5.2 during the Mists of Pandaria expansion, Throne of Thunder is arguably the best end-game raid from Pandaria. And since we can get to level 110 these days, soloing this dungeon isn’t exactly rocket science and you can make some nice profits out of it.
Apart from selling all the various items and different loot that drops there, those of you who’re interested in collecting mounts should rejoice because there are two epic mounts that drop in that instance. First, we have the Spawn of Horridon that logically drops from well, Horridon, and it has a drop rate of 2.76%. Then there’s the Clutch of Ji-Kun that of course, drops from Ji-Kun and the drop chance for this mount is the “whopping” 2.73%. Needless to say, you’ll have to spend a good amount of time in that dungeon if you’re specifically farming these two mounts.
Just keep in mind that the item level of your gear would need to be at least around 850 to feel comfortable soloing it, without stressing yourself too much.
2. Firelands 25H (Cataclysm)
- Location: Mount Hyjal, Kalimdor (Azeroth)
- Time to complete: around 11 minutes
- Average profit: 1,520 gold
This stunning raid saw the day of late back in late 2010 when Cata was still fresh and when the Worgen and Goblins were still the new playable races of that time.
The incredible aesthetics of this dungeon and the fact that Ragnaros makes his famous comeback in the very same place, will both help you spend more time here and the good news is that you’ll be generously rewarded for doing so.
Not only will you be able to obtain more than 1.5k gold in a tad more than 10 minutes (around 11 mins. or so), but you’ll have a chance to get your hands on Flametalon of Alysrazor. That’s undoubtedly one of the most badass mounts in-game, although with a drop rate of just 2.32%, you better arm yourself with patience.
3. Blackwing Descent 25H (Cataclysm)
- Location: Blackrock Mountain, Eastern Kingdoms (Azeroth)
- Time to complete: around 6 minutes
- Average profit: 1,116 gold
Yet another end-game raid in the Blackrock Mountain (is there even any more room left in that place for anything?). BD was released in November 2010 with the Firelands patch. A word of warning though – if you hate anything Blackrock-related aesthetics-wise, then you’ll most likely not enjoy farming this one.
Regardless, this instance is incredibly profitable if you consider how little time it takes to clear it and the amount of gold you end up with. This is the raid with the most profit-potential in this list, so it’s definitely worth giving a go.
However, if you’re a sucker for mounts you’ll be disappointed since Blackwing Descent doesn’t mix well with mounts, or in other words – no mounts drop here.
4. MoGu’shan Vaults 25H (Mists of Pandaria)
- Location: Kun-Lai Summit, Pandaria
- Time to complete: around 13 minutes
- Average profit: 1,066 gold
MoGu’shan Vaults got introduced with Mists of Pandaria expansion all the way back in 2012 and to be perfectly honest, it was never a fascinating place to raid.
But since we’re strictly focused on gold-making here, it deserves a spot on the list since it doesn’t take an awful lot of time and it returns nice profits. After all, 1k gold in approximately 13 minutes is quite the deal.
And on top of that, all you mount collectors should rejoice – you can grab the Reins of the Astral Cloud Serpent mount that looks absolutely brilliant and it drops from the Cache of Pure Energy. Perhaps it’s worth mentioning that the drop rate is… 0.9%.
5. Trial of the Crusader 25H (Wrath of the Lich King)
- Location: Argent Tournament Grounds, Icecrown (Northrend)
- Time to complete: around 7 minutes
- Average profit: 500 gold
Last but not least we have a pretty cool raid hailing from the awesome Northrend, courtesy of one of the best WoW expansions (in my opinion) – Wrath of the Lich King.
This dungeon might’ve been challenging 10 years ago, but these days you can solo it incredibly quickly while returning a decent profit. Sure, Blackwing Descent will earn you more but Trial of the Crusader is a great option for diversifying your gold-earning potential.
Unfortunately, there are no mounts that drop in this raid, but the great feeling of bringing the nerubian king Anub’Arak down, more than makes up for that.
So there you have it folks, the 5 Best Raids to Farm for Gold (solo-style) for profit. Nostalgia will inevitably kick in when you head to any of the entries on the list above and what’s better than enjoying some of the most epic World of Warcraft dungeons while earning pretty decent amounts of gold at the same time?
