Everything You Need to Know About the World of Warcraft Legion Companion App

By | July 25th, 2018 | Categories: World of Warcraft

There’s no denying that smartphones are an integral part of our modern society and Blizzard knows that all too well. And that’s why they came up with the World of Warcraft Legion Companion App for both iOS and Android devices.

That’s not a surprise by any stretch of the imagination since almost everything in existence has an associated mobile app these days, so it was only a matter of time until an official one was released for our favorite MMORPG.

It’s slick, authentic and quite handy so in today’s post we’re going to take a closer look at what it actually is and what it’s key features are, so make sure to read on!

What exactly is the World of Warcraft Legion Companion App and what does it do?

The WoW Legion Companion app is a free mobile application published by Blizzard, which is available for both Android and iOS devices.

This app was born out of Blizz’s desire to have a genuine mobile app for their most successful franchize. One that lets players keep up with their in-game characters, even when they’re not on their computers.

Subsequently, this app offers a plethora of functionality, such as:

Manage your class Order Hall remotely

  • First, there’s a ‘Research’ button at the bottom right corner of your screen, that lets you upgrade your Order Hall or change existing upgrades.
  • Then there’s also a ‘Followers’ tab that you can use to check the current list of your champions and manage their equipment.
  • The ‘Recruit’ icon, on the other hand, lets you train new troops that you can then send on specific missions.
  • Lastly, there’s the ‘Missions’ section and by tapping it, you’ll be able to see every single mission that’s currently available for your character. You can view each mission separately and check the associated rewards, assign champions or troops and then hit the ‘Start Mission’ You can also track their progress and when they’re done, complete them – all via the mobile app.

Check all the available World Quests for your character

  • This awesome function lets you browse through all world quests that you can do and plan which ones you’d like to complete first, the next time you log into the game.
  • You’ll have access to a Broken Isles map from your mobile device and you’ll be able to see where each quest is, what the related rewards are, plus you can also filter what kind of quests you’d like to see on that map.

It’s obvious that Blizzard did their homework because this mobile app literally offers heaps of functionality at your disposal, no matter where you are. But it’s worth mentioning that a new companion app will be replacing the Legion one.

What will the new companion app be like?

At the end of June this year, Blizz themselves have announced that they’ll be halting the support for the Mobile Armory app. But that doesn’t mean that things are going downhill – there’s definitely light in the tunnel.

In place of the outgoing companion app, Blizzard will be converting the Legion one, thus creating the WoW Champion app that will embody the best features of its predecessors, while also adding relevant elements from Battle for Azeroth.

And while there’s not much specific info about the details of the new app, it’ll most likely be free, just like the outgoing version and it’ll most definitely be available for both iOS and Android.

Where can you download the current Champion App?

Since there are two available options and depending on your device, you can choose between one of the following download links:

Both are 100% free and both are exactly the same thing. And these are the system requirements for each version:

  • iOS- Version 8.0 or later, iPad Mini, iPad Air, iPad 2, iPod Touch 5 or newer generations
  • Android – Latest Android version, 1.2/1.5 GHz processor, 1/2 GB memory and 300 MB of space

On a side note, you have to remember that you won’t be able to use the Companion app while you’re logging in World of Warcraft, because obviously you can’t be logged into both at the same time, according to Blizzard.

What are some other relevant WoW Mobile Apps?

Now, there are a few unofficial WoW apps out there and while they’re not endorsed by Blizzard, nor are they as frequently updated, it’s still worth mentioning some of them.

1. Professions Guide for WoW (by Fimor)

Download it here (available for Android devices)

While this app hasn’t been updated in a while (the last update is from early 2017), it’s still quite handy because it offers extensive info regarding all the in-game professions and some other related goodies.

Apart from being able to see where herbs and ores are on the world map from your mobile device, there’s also information about the needed materials for different recipes/potions/etc. and the author has also included a cool guide for leveling up your favorite profession.

2. Azeroth Encyclopedia (by Enjoyer.org)

Download it here (Available for iOS devices)

This one’s kind of similar to the Atlas WoW mod as the main idea is virtually the same. The Azeroth Encyclopedia app lets you browse through the loot for different dungeons and raids, while you can also check PVP, faction-related and world event rewards.

Note that this app is compatible with iOS version 6.0 or later and it also supports a handful of languages, from English to Russian and Chinese.

Conclusive Thoughts

Now that it’s been confirmed that the Legion Companion app will be replaced by an upgraded Companion app that’ll be in-line with the new Battle for Azeroth content, it’ll be quite exciting to see what Blizzard has come up with this time.

Over to you now – do you think that the new and improved app will be better, or it being a jack of all trades is far from optimal? Drop your opinion in the comment section below!
