The Nintendo Switch is one of the top-selling mobile gaming devices on the market. With its portability and extensive catalog of games, users can play their favorite games wherever they want. This year, there were many releases for the Switch, ranging from remakes to new titles. Looking for the best games on the Nintendo Switch for 2024? We have our top picks right here.

Princess Peach: Showtime!

  • Score: 7.5
  • Copies Sold: 1.22 million copies as of May 2024.

Princess Peach: Showtime! is an action-adventure platformer where you play Princess Peach as she ventures into different stages inspired by famous theatre plays. The story is about the wicked Madame Grape and the Sour Bunch taking over the Sparkle Theatre. Princess Peach, with the help of the theater guardian Stella, team up to take the theatre back. Princess Peach utilizes costume changes to get various powers. The game is easy to play due to its low difficulty. Despite this, the game has a great story, a fantastic soundtrack, and is a refreshing take on platform gameplay.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

  • Score: 8
  • Copies Sold: 227,569 retail sales in Japan in the first week, topping Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is the third entry in the franchise on the Switch. It performed well commercially and was nominated for Best Family Game and Best Multiplayer at The Game Awards 2024. The game, like its predecessors, features various modes and mini-games. The unique aspect of the latest installment is that it utilizes the Joy-Con controllers for its gameplay. The game is fun to play offline and online, and its new modes and mini-games don’t feel like a rehash of the previous ones.

Monster Hunter Stories

  • Score: 8

Monster Hunter Stories is a remastered game first released on the Nintendo 3DS and has now been adapted to the Switch. The RPG lets you play as a Rider instead of a Hunter and implements a traditional turn-based battle system. Some significant aspects that differ from the Monster Hunter franchise are that it lets you hatch eggs, befriend monsters, battle with them, and customize the monster’s abilities and appearance. The game provides a refreshing take on the franchise. Thanks to the remaster, the game has again been in the spotlight.

Sonic X Shadow Generations

  • Score: 8
  • Copies Sold: 1.5 million copies as of November 2024.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a combination of 2 games. It’s a remaster of the Sonic Generations game and a brand-new game titled Shadow Generations. The game features 2D and 3D gameplay where players must complete stages and defeat bosses. You’ll have more freedom in the Shadow Generations part of the game since it has some open-world gameplay. Unfortunately, you can’t buy Shadow Generations as a standalone game, so you’ll have to get Sonic X Shadow Generations to play it even if you already have a copy of Sonic Generations. The positive of buying the bundle is that the Sonic Generations will have new rewritten scripts and cutscenes.

Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

  • Score: 8.5
  • Copies Sold: 2.58 million copies as of November 2024.

Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is a 2D action-adventure game with 3D graphics, where you finally get to play as Princess Zelda. The story is about Link’s disappearance, and Zelda is given the Tri Rod to save him and protect Hyrule from the mysterious rifts. The gameplay revolves around the Tri Rod, which can replicate any objects and even enemies to fight for Zelda. The game gives players plenty of freedom to utilize the Tri Rod’s powers but can sometimes slow down the game’s frame rate.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door

  • Score: 9
  • Copies Sold: 1.76 million copies

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door is a turn-based RPG game released in 2004 for the GameCube but has now been remade for the Nintendo Switch. The game is mostly the same in terms of mechanics, but the art style changes to match the aesthetics of Paper Mario: Sticker Star. The gameplay maintains the classic combat style of the original and is revamped to fit the button inputs of the Switch. Each chapter of the game provides a thrill of discovery, and its storyline fits nicely in an RPG despite being far from traditional. Despite being 20 years old, the game did not stop it from selling 1.76 million copies worldwide for its remake release.
