God of War 6 Set in Egypt According to Leaks
There have been reports that Sony is allegedly developing a new God of War game based on Egyptian Mythology. Hopes for a sequel to GoW 5 Ragnarok were almost squashed last year when it was reported that Santa Monica Studio devs had doubts about releasing another title for the franchise. However, according to the latest report, with hints from recent recruitments, Sony seems to be working on a brand new entry for the franchise surrounding Egypt.

Sony Hiring Middle Eastern Actors is the Clue
According to Daniel Richtman, a well-known insider who shares entertainment scoops, Sony has been recruiting Middle Eastern actors for an unnamed triple AAA game. He further speculated that this project is likely a new God of War entry centered around Egypt. Rumors about the next GoW being about the Egyptian Pantheon have circulated since GoW 4 and Ragnarok, so the recruitment of actors from this region is a good indicator for a potential sequel.
The idea of an Egyptian setting has been floating around since 2018. In a documentary about the making of God of War, creative director Cory Barlog mentioned the studio’s interest in Egyptian mythos. However, this was mentioned in passing about whether to take the franchise in a Norse Pantheon direction or an Egyptian one. While GoW 4 and 5 ended up being about Nordic mythology, the devs’ previous interest in Egyptian Mythology has helped fuel the rumors surrounding the new info being leaked.
However, fans should take this with a grain of salt since these are only speculations for now. Sony hasn’t confirmed anything yet, so nothing is definitive. We’ll need to wait for any potential announcements from the studio or further leaks from data miners.
Update on the God of War Franchise
Aside from a potential God of War 6 game, Amazon is also adapting the franchise for TV. However, we don’t have any details about this, aside from the fact that there’s already a working script. On the other hand, Sony canceled a live-service GoW game that was in the works for two years. This project eventually got shelved for unknown reasons.
