Civilization 7 lets you play as different civilizations across different periods. It’s hard to choose which civilization to use for each Age. To help you out, here’s a complete list of all playable Civilizations in Civ 7.

What are Civilizations

Civilizations are playable factions in Civ 7. Each has unique abilities and attributes to help them expand and grow their settlement. Civilizations are locked to their assigned Age. Civilizations in the game become another civilization after advancing to the next Age. It means you can only play Greece in the Antiquity Age, Inca in the Exploration Age, and Meiji in the Modern Age.

Here are all playable Civilizations from each Age and their attributes and unique abilities.

Antiquity Age Civilizations

Aksum

  • Attributes: Cultural, Economic
  • Unique Ability: Kingdom of Natural Wealth – Increases Gold on resources.

Egypt

  • Attributes: Cultural, Economic
  • Unique Ability: Gifts of Osiris – Increases production on Navigable Rivers

Greece

  • Attributes: Cultural, Diplomatic
  • Unique Ability: Demokratia – Increases influences per turn on the Palace.

Han China

  • Attributes: Diplomatic, Scientific
  • Unique Ability: Nine Provinces – The Capital and new Towns gain an additional Population with their first growth event.

Khmer

  • Attributes: Expansionist, Scientific
  • Unique Ability: Ksekam Chamnon – Urban Districts on Rivers don’t remove the natural yield of the tile.

Maurya

  • Attributes: Militaristic, Scientific
  • Unique Ability: Dhamma Lipi – Choose an additional Pantheon after unlocking Mysticism.

Maya

  • Attributes: Diplomatic, Scientific
  • Unique Ability: Skies of Itzamna – The Palace gains Science for adjacent Vegetated tiles.

Mississippian

  • Attributes: Economic, Expansionist
  • Unique Ability: Goose Societies – All buildings get a Food Adjacency for Resources.

Persia

  • Attributes: Economic, Militaristic
  • Unique Ability: Hamarana Council – Infantry Units get an increase in Combat Strength when attacking.

Rome

  • Attributes: Cultural, Militaristic
  • Unique Ability: Twelve Tables – Adds Culture to Districts in the Town’s Capital and City Centers.

Exploration Age Civilizations

Abbasid

  • Attributes: Scientific, Cultural
  • Unique Ability: Medina – Receive Gold for each Rural Population of the City when a Specialist is created.

Chola

  • Attributes: Economic, Diplomatic
  • Unique Ability: Samayam – Gain an additional Trade Route from Trade Agreements.

Hawai’i

  • Attributes: Cultural, Expansionist
  • Unique Ability: Moananuiākea – Gain Culture each time a Settlement expands to a Marine tile. Increases Happiness of Fishing Boats.

Inca

  • Attributes: Expansionist, Economic
  • Unique Ability: Apus – Mountain tiles can be worked. Gain additional Food and Production on Mountains.

Majapahit

  • Attributes: Economic, Cultural
  • Unique Ability: Negara – All Cities except the Capital have an increased Specialist Limit.

Ming

  • Attributes: Economic, Scientific
  • Unique Ability: Great Canon of Yongle – Increases Science in the Capital. Reduced Science per turn for each Social Policy slotted.

Mongolia

  • Attributes: Expansionist, Militaristic
  • Unique Ability: Bokh – Gain the strongest Calvary Unit you can train when you capture opposing Settlements. Gain a Victory Point towards the Non Sufficit Orbis Victory for controlled Settlements in Distant Lands.

Norman

  • Attributes: Diplomatic, Militaristic
  • Unique Ability: Normannitas – Land Unites receive increased Movement when Embarked. Land Units adjacent to the Coast receive increased Combat Strength.

Shawnee

  • Attributes: Economic, Diplomatic
  • Unique Ability: Nepekifaki – Settlements built adjacent to Navigable Rivers gain increased Food on River Tiles. Cities not built on adjacent Navigable Rivers receive less Food.

Songhai

  • Attributes: Economic, Militaristic
  • Unique Ability: Tarikh al-Sudan – Increases Resource Capacity in Cities on Navigable Rivers. Trade Trips can’t be Plundered on Navigable Rivers.

Spain

  • Attributes: Militaristic, Expansionist
  • Unique Ability: Siglo de Oro – Increases Gold efficiency towards converting a Town into a City. Increases further in Distant Lands.

Modern Age Civilizations

America

  • Attributes: Economic, Expansionist
  • Unique Ability: Frontier Expansion – Gain Gold whenever you improve a Resource.

Buganda

  • Attributes: Cultural, Expansionist
  • Unique Ability: River Raids – Receive additional Culture when pillaging Buildings or Improvements equal to the yield or healing gained. Land Units gain the Amphibious keyword, granting no Combat penalties when attacking from Embarkation. It won’t cost Movement to Embark and Disembark.

French Empire

  • Attributes: Militaristic, Diplomatic
  • Unique Ability: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité – You can select the Celebration effects of any Government in the Modern Age.

Meiji

  • Attributes: Militaristic, Scientific
  • Unique Ability: Goisshin – When you Overbuild a Building, receive Science equal to a set percentage of the new Building’s Production cost.

Mexico

  • Attributes: Cultural, Diplomatic
  • Unique Ability: Revolución – Start with a unique Government type, Revolución. This government has one celebration effect, granting a considerable cultural boost for 10 turns. It can’t enter any other Government type.

Mughal

  • Attributes: Economic, Expansionist
  • Unique Ability: Paradise of Nations – Greatly adds earned Gold from all sources. Increases production towards the Red Fort while lowering all other yields.

Prussia

  • Attributes: Militaristic, Diplomatic
  • Unique Ability: Blood and Iron – Unites receive increased Combat Strength for every unfriendly civilization.

Qing China

  • Attributes: Economic, Expansionist
  • Unique Ability: Kang Qian Shengshi – Increases Gold, Culture, and Influence from Imported Resources but decreases Science from Imported Resources.

Russia

  • Attributes: Cultural, Scientific
  • Unique Ability: Prosveshchenie – Increases Culture in Urban Districts in Cities. Increases Science in Urban Districts in Cities on Tundra tiles.

Siam

  • Attributes: Cultural, Diplomatic
  • Unique Ability: Itsaraphab – GIves a Diplomatic Action to immediately become a Suzerain of a City-State at a Higher Diplomacy Cost than Befriending Independents.
