NetEase Cancels Mid-Season Rank Reset for Marvel Rivals
In a surprising turn of events, NetEase announced on their social media pages that they will no longer go through with the mid-season rank resets. Instead, they’ve updated the rules to the mid-season reset as a compromise between them and the community.

According to their recent Dev Talk blog, NetEase acknowledged the feedback given by the player base and decided to reverse their mid-season reset. Originally, it was intended for all players to be sent down 4 divisions after the reset, meaning if a player reaches Gold 1 by the time reset arrives, they’ll instead drop to Silver 2. The biggest criticism from players was that it would make for a worse ranking experience since it puts more pressure on rankers.
While NetEase still wants a frequent mid-season update to add more content, they’ve decided to do the following in light of this new change:
- The first half of the season will still end on February 21, 2025. Ranked players who have reached Gold and Grandmaster will still receive their costume and Crest of Honor respectively.
- Once the first half of the season ends, players will retain their current rank in that period. A new costume and Crest of Honor will be added to the ranked reward track and players who are already in Gold and Grandmaster are immediately eligible for these rewards.
- Gold and Grandmaster players will need to play 10 ranked matches in order to claim these rewards
This change has been positively received by the community, with many noting that the developers have been taking in feedback and are actually taking action on criticism. Changes like these will help Marvel Rivals stay cemented as one of the best hero shooters on the market.
