Avowed Ygwulf: Kill or Spare

By | February 20th, 2025 | Categories: Others

Avowed has many crossroad choices that have long-term effects on your playthrough, and your decision regarding Ygwulf is one of them. Your choices regarding this assassin will impact your relationship with some factions within the game, so you should carefully consider whether to keep him alive. Here’s the best option regarding Ygwulf.

Ygwulf in An Untimely End Quest

Your encounter with Ygwulf will occur during the main quest for An Untimely End. Your main objective in this task is to locate your would-be killer, but you’ll have to undergo a series of investigations to unmask your assassin. Eventually, you’ll reach the cisterns below the Temple of Ondra and meet Ygwulf after fighting several Paradisan Rebels and crawlers.

Kill for Better Armor or Spare for a Better Ending

You have three options for what to do with Ygwulf: kill, spare, or force him to confess to the Steel Garrote. Only the first two options provide worthwhile rewards. Killing Ygwulf lets you obtain the Blackwing Armor, which has the following stats:

  • 30% Stealth Attack Damage
  • 25% Move Speed while crouched

The armor is great for those going through the stealth route, but doing so will have lasting consequences lore-wise. The Rebels will remain hostile to you throughout your playthrough, and you will be locked out of the Best Outcome Available in the game.

On the other hand, sparing Ygwulf doesn’t bring any immediate rewards, but it does make your playthrough much easier. Paradis Rebels will no longer attack you on sight, and you can freely visit any rebel hideout without resistance. The main reason you’d pick this option is to get the best outcome for the game: Fight for a United Living Lands.

The best option for this choice depends on whether you want the armor or the best game outcome. If you’re not running a stealth build, Sparing Ygwulf might be the best option because it lets you skip the boss fight. Otherwise, killing him might be more rewarding.

Least Rewarding Option (Ygwulf Confess)

The last option is to make Ygwulf confess to the Steel Garrote. It’s the only option that we wouldn’t advise players to take because it doesn’t give you any decent rewards, and it also locks you out from the better outcomes in the game. Since Ygwulf will be executed for this choice, the Rebels will remain hostile to you. The only perk of taking this route is that it lets you skip the demanding boss fight, which is also a perk for simply letting him live.
