Black Ops 6 Hit Registration Issues Blundered by Activision

By | December 4th, 2024 | Categories: Call of Duty

Activision has misidentified the cause of Black Ops 6’s hit registration as a visual bug instead of the desyncing server issues plaguing the game. Here are the details surrounding the inconsistencies in the game’s hit registration system.

Server Desyncs and Packet Loss

Since Black Ops 6’s launch, many players have complained about the inconsistent damage dealt in some matches, with many attributing it to “skill-based damage.” After a lot of testing done by the CoD community, much of the inconsistencies lie in the official servers not receiving enough information from each player’s client. Not only that, the game has taken a new damage model where headshots are far less effective than body shots.

Research Provides Data

According to this X post by Freund, Black Ops has no lag compensation that should mitigate the extreme server desyncing in the game. Hitboxes are also not lined up between the client and server, which messes up controller aim assist. The game may show a visual effect of blood splatter when landing a hit, but the server doesn’t recognize the shot as a hit, which is undoubtedly frustrating for many players.

Some video clips have even demonstrated the lack of hit registration when the target stands still, meaning the server delay is off by whole seconds.

Official BO6 Account Mistakes Desync Issue

The CODUpdates account has publicly identified the issue as a visual bug of blood splattering when damage is not dealt. However, there’s actually a deeper underlying cause for the issue. As mentioned earlier, Black Ops 6’s servers are desyncing between it and the game clients, which worsens the multiplayer experience overall. Many in the CoD community are furious at Activision for pushing a different narrative on the issue, with many clips posted online to prove that the servers are still broken. If the servers are not fixed, this may impact the Multiplayer population as the desyncs worsen the experience for both new and older players.
