The Wages of Hatred quest is one of the missions you must complete to progress further in the seasonal campaign. Unfortunately, the main NPC involved in this quest is missing. The Wages of Hatred Overview
The Wages of Hatred is the sixth and last quest of the Seasonal campaign. Starting this mission is by far the easiest one to complete since you only need to interact with Istel for several minutes to finish it. You automatically unlock the quest after finishing The Rising Hells, which prompts you to talk with the NPC.
Finishing the Wages of Hatred gives you Istel’s Grimoire, a Legendary item, and two item caches. As the last one on the Seasonal Questline, completing Wages of Hatred automatically finishes the whole Season 5 Campaign. While the task is straightforward, gamers have had trouble completing it because Istel is a hard-to-find character.
Where is Istel in Zarbinzet
Initially, you can find Istel in Zarbinzet near the city’s center, where most NPCs are located. However, this specific character suddenly vanishes once you start the Wages of Hatred mission. Many players thought it was a bug, but the quest actually forces you on a wild goose chase as Istel changes locations.
The circle prompts cover the whole of Zarbinzet, so it signals you to go all over town to look for her. Fortunately, the changed location is static, so she only goes to one location for all players. You can find Istel near the Northeastern Gate of the city. Once you get near her area, the circle prompt disappears, and a new icon appears on her. She’ll also be surrounded by dead bodies pinned to crosses, who were the enemies that attacked her early on.
Once you interact with her, she’ll talk to you briefly before prompting you to return to her family’s house. This is where you initially interacted with her and were attacked by enemies now bound to the crosses. You need to look for the room where you claim the rewards with Mother’s Gifts.
Once you arrive, look for Istel’s Grimoire, which should be on the top of the table. After reading and finishing it, you have fully completed the seasonal campaign in Diablo 4. Afterward, you can now focus on farming Helltides or Infernal Hordes for exclusive rewards and essential resources for Mythic Uniques.
