By | July 10th, 2023 | Categories: Diablo

Diablo 4 Season 1 is approaching, arriving in late July. However, there needs to be some clarification about what progress and renown players will carry over to the start of the first season. While some of your accomplishments and advancements in the Eternal Realm will transfer over, there will also be plenty of things that won’t. So, when Season 1 kicks off, be prepared to redo certain aspects.

Many players are anticipating the changes coming to Sanctuary. Gamers are eager to try the upcoming update and level up their new characters to gain many cool rewards. However, players still need to be bold about doing everything from scratch. Some features will carry over to the next Season. Unfortunately, Renown will not be one of them.

Diablo IV Season 1 – Season of the Malignant

The theme for the upcoming season of Diablo IV is the “Season of the Malignant” theme. The world of Sanctuary is under siege by a new corruption known as “Malignance.” This sinister force infects everything it touches, from humans to demons and creatures. Wanderers must now face the impending danger with the help of new allies.

Players will encounter a new character named Cormond, who possesses crucial knowledge on combatting and halting the spread of this insidious corruption. However, the former priest of the Cathedral of Light is keen on stopping this new threat but needs help to succeed. Players are called upon to join forces with Cormond and face the treacherous challenges ahead as Sanctuary teems with peril and malevolence.

Renown Will Not Carry Over

Renown will not carry over to the next season of Diablo IV. Fame is specifically designed as a seasonal progression system that resets with each new season. This ensures that every season provides a fresh start and an equal playing field for all players. The decision to reset Renown with each season serves several important purposes:

  • Encouraging replayability and diversity – By resetting Renown, players can explore new strategies, builds, and playstyles each season. It promotes variety and prevents stagnation, keeping the gameplay experience exciting and engaging.
  • Balancing the playing field – A reset allows all players to start on an equal footing at the beginning of each season. It ensures that no one has an unfair advantage based on their progress from previous seasons.
  • Maintaining a sense of progression – While Renown resets, other aspects of character progression, such as gear, items, and Paragon points, continue to carry over. This allows players to feel a sense of overall progression while enjoying the fresh challenges of a new season.

Blizzard’s decision not to carry over Renown between seasons reflects their commitment to providing a dynamic and balanced gameplay experience in Diablo IV. Players are encouraged to explore and experiment and experience fair competition within each new season.

What Carries Over for Next Season

While Renown will not carry over to the next Season, several features contributing to its progression will be retained. These things will provide players with a head start in their regional reputation so that they can focus on the more grind-heavy aspects of the game. Waypoints to significant cities: Your progress in unlocking waypoints to major cities, such as Kyovashad, Cerrigar, Gea Kul, Ked Bardu, and Zarbinzet, will continue next season. This allows for convenient travel within the game world.

  • Altars of Lilith- Any altars of Lilith that you have previously discovered will remain unlocked in the next season. You will retain the Renown, paragon points, and maximum obol capacity associated with those altars.
  • Map exploration – Areas of the map you have already explored will carry over. This includes the physical exploration and the associated Renown earned from discovering these areas.
  • Paragon points – Paragon points, which are earned through gaining experience, will continue to accumulate and carry over between seasons. These points can improve your character’s stats and provide long-term progression.
  • Obol capacity – The maximum obol capacity you have achieved will also carry over. Obols are a valuable resource in Diablo IV used for various purposes, including crafting and upgrading items.

These carry-over elements provide a head start and allow you to focus more on earning Renown and tackling new challenges in the next season. It strikes a balance between preserving specific progress while maintaining the seasonal freshness and excitement of Diablo IV.

What New Things Will be Coming to Season of Malignancy

Diablo 4 Season 1 introduces a new side campaign where players will resolve the conflict between Lilith and Inarius. Cormond will act as the season guide and lead players on a mission to rid the world of the Malignance, a corruption turning beings into bloodthirsty monsters. Malignancy also brings a new mechanic called Malignant Hearts. These gem-like items come in different colors and can be placed in matching slots on jewelry. They grant specific buffs and abilities, opening up new build possibilities and changing a character’s role in multiplayer sessions.

To obtain Malignant Hearts, players must defeat formidable Elite foes. Defeating an Elite exposes their corrupt heart, and using a Cage of Binding on it respawns the Elite as a more challenging foe with new spawns. By defeating this version, players acquire Elite’s Malignant Heart.

Additionally, Malignant Tunnels can be found in certain areas after completing the season’s story. These mini-dungeons contain a Malignant Outgrowth at the end. Players can use invokers, crafted from salvaged Malignant Hearts, to activate nodes within the outgrowth, spawn an Elite, and obtain a matching color Malignant Heart.

Finish the Season for Cool Rewards

Participating in the upcoming season is an excellent idea because reaching certain milestones will reward gamers tremendously. Fortunately, the grind will not feel repetitive since the Renown will be reset. Check out all the upcoming changes to be better prepared for your progression.
