What is Fortnite Reload?
Fornite Reload is a major update that was released on June 22, 2024. The game mode is essentially a throwback to the vanilla version of Fortnite before it blew up in popularity. The new mode is available in Build and Zero Build modes.
This mode also features a new map with familiar locations such as Tilted Towers, Retail Row, and Pleasant Park; which are the original locations in the first chapter of Fortnite. The other areas are re-imagined versions of places during the course of Fortnite’s history. This includes Dusty Docks, Lazy Laps, Snobby Shoals, Lone Lodge, Lil’ Loot Lake, and Sandy Sheets.
The game mode also re-introduces weapons from the first Fortnite chapters. While these weapons may seem “new” to the recent generation of players, the OGswill definitely love the nostalgia it gives.
Another new feature is an unlimited revive mechanic, but it comes with some limitations. We’ll get to that shortly.
New Map, Old Locations
For OG Fortnite players, all the familiar locations they played back in the day are here on Reload. Newer players will find these locations to be a new experience. But that does not diminish the fun they will have, especially if the stakes are high. Since the game mode is limited to 40 players per match, a fast-paced game is inevitable. The danger zone is also present in Fortnite Reload, which adds pressure to the already intense game mode.
Here is a rundown of the locations in Fortnite Reload:
- Tilted Towers: The classic middle-of-the-map location where things can get intense. Some high-tier loot can be found in this location.
- Pleasant Park: A good starting point for players. It has a decent amount of loot and may have fewer players.
- Retail Row: This southeastern part of the map is home to wild early game scrimmages in the original Fortnite. Its various incarnations after had the same intense battles. Best played with a party.
- Lone Lodge: A forest located north of the map. Consumables like mushrooms can be found here. Also, the lodge has a decent amount of rare loot.
- Dusty Docks: Same as Retail Row, this location is a hotbed for early scrims. Those who land first on this spot will always have the advantage.
- Snobby Shoals: This northeastern area of the map is good if you want to spend some time looting and not engage in duels.
- Lil’ Loot Lake: As the name says, it has loot. In my previous experience with this location, most items are Epic or above.
- Lazy Laps: This southernmost part of the map is the equivalent of Snobby Shoals. Beware though. Dusty Docks and Retail Row are just nearby.
- Sandy Sheets: A fairly normal location to spend time and loot. Not much can be seen here.

Fortnite Reload currently boasts 34 weapons from the old arsenal. OG players may want to shoot down new targets with these weapons to see who’s boss.

Unlimited Revives, With a Twist
No more Reboot Cards when you die. The new game mechanic features a revival countdown up to 40 seconds that will determine the fate of your team. If your teammates do not survive during your revival countdown, your team loses. Here is the complete mechanics of the unlimited revive:
- Eliminated players revive at the end of their revival countdown. This countdown starts at 30 seconds and scales to 40 seconds later in the match.
- Teammates who are still alive can reduce their dead teammate’s revival countdown depending on how they interact with opponents: knock down (-2 seconds), elimination (-4 seconds), wiping out the entire opponent squad (-10 seconds).
- Downed players can start their reboot timer immediately. This is a good way to not waste time for revival and engage in duels as soon as you come back. The mere seconds difference between being knocked down and eliminated can be crucial for team fights.
- Revives stop towards the end of the match.
- After you reboot, you will have a common assault rifle and 100 wood (for Build mode).
- Player elimination drops include Small Shield Potions, medium ammo, light ammo, shotgun shells, and 50 of each building material (for Build only). This is on top of the items the eliminated player is carrying.
Rewards
Fortnite Reload includes quests that give 20,000XP each. This is great for grinding the Battle Pass. After completing three matches, you will unlock the Digital Dogfight Contrail. Six matches will net you the Pool Cubes Wrap, and nine matches to obtain the NaNa Bath Back Bling.
Winning the Victory Crown for the first time will reward you The Rezzbrella Glider.
Conclusion
Fortnite Reload is a refreshing take on the classic game by reintroducing the vanilla content to new players. Albeit without the frills of the newer chapters and the collaborations (past and present). It’s just the good old Fortnite that players love.
