Calls for League of Legends Boycott Over Removal of Hextech Chests
Players are calling for others to boycott League of Legends over the controversial decision to remove several F2P rewards. Riot has been in hot water following their changes to the Blue Essence drop and Masterwork and Hextech chests. While the backlash did force devs to rework the BE changes, the community is still clamoring for the return of the free chests.

Players Dismay Over Riot Results in Call for Boycott
Riot’s recent move adjusted how much Blue Essence players can earn and removed the Hextech chests from the game. These are essential parts of the game’s F2P elements, as players can earn champions and skins by playing hundreds of games and performing well in those matches. Many have expressed dismay over these changes and have taken their feelings to online platforms.
Most discussions about the issue are on Reddit and other social media sites, but the sentiments are generally the same. Everyone hates what Riot is doing right now. The Blue Essence and Hextech Chests changes have essentially killed the game’s F2P spirit, and this situation might finally force F2P players and whalers to join hands.
The Blue Essence changes made unlocking new champions much harder. It’s estimated that new gamers will have to play for six years non-stop to earn enough BE to unlock all characters. Meanwhile, the Hextech Chests were wholly removed from the game, so players can no longer earn them through mastery or use them either. The only way to earn free skins is via the Season BP, but those cosmetics are usually for popular characters and are very limited.

The backlash against these changes caused Riot to roll back its rework on the Blue Essence system. However, it’s not enough, as players have called for others to boycott League of Legends altogether via the comment sections. The calls invite gamers to stop buying anything from the shop or playing the game until Riot sorts out this mess.

Would A Boycott Work This Time Around
The last call for a boycott that players can remember was over the controversial $500 Ahri skin. However, that movement lasted only three days before many caved in, bought the Faker BP, and swiped for the skin. However, since the issue ultimately affects the game’s F2P system, a boycott this time would probably have more success than the previous one. While players understand that Riot needs to generate profit to create better content, this blatant money-grabbing scheme from developers has wholly enraged the community.
So the only way to get prestige skins now is gambling?

Rumoured Internal Discussion For Hextech Comeback
All this buzz and negative feedback seem to have made it to Riot, as we have rumors that there is an internal discussion between devs. The Spanish CM mentioned in passing that talks are ongoing regarding the return of Hextech Chests. However, this is not 100% confirmed since Riot has not made any official announcements. It could take quite a while until the chests return to the game or until the current BP expires.
