Marvel Rivals Ban Players Using macOS Emulators
Marvel Rivals isn’t available on macOS devices yet, so gamers have found alternative ways to play it on their devices. However, many players are getting banned for this due to an issue with the anti-cheat software. Fortunately, most of these bans have since been reversed, but the problem regarding the use of emulators remains.

Players on macOS Get 100-Yr Bans
A Reddit user shared that Marvel Rivals has mass-blocked users on macOS for allegedly cheating. However, this is not the case for most people on this platform. Since Marvel Rivals doesn’t have a macOS port, gamers resorted to using emulators to play the game. Unfortunately, the use of emulators is the culprit for why players are getting tagged as cheaters.
MacOs players are met with messages indicating they’ve been issued a penalty after they were detected with a violation. While the game tags them as cheaters, they’ve only been using emulators to play the game on an unsupported operating system. Some have even received up to 100 Bans.
Gamers have determined that most of those getting banned are using CodeWeavers on Mac. This software lets players emulate a Windows client to let users install and play Marvel Rivals on a supported OS. However, the anti-cheat software only detects the emulation and not what it’s used for, which results in the bans.
Cheaters commonly use emulators to bypass specific coding and use hacks. For the players using these programs to play on macOS, the anti-cheat software detects this as cheating. The system mainly tags any use of emulators as hacking, so gamers automatically get banned even if they aren’t using them to cheat.
Crossover Negotiating with NetEase
Fortunately, CodeWeaver’s CEO immediately tried to resolve the situation after getting feedback via their Discord channel. James B. Ramey contacted NetEase via their devs in China to contact the Marvel Rivals company to discuss the situation. NetEase stated that this was a mistake on their part and has since removed the bans from affected parties.
Ramey also mentioned that players should continue playing Marvel Rivals with CodeWeavers without further clarification. This means that NetEase might be doing additional coding to filter out those using CodeWeavers from getting tagged as cheaters. However, we’ll need further information from Marvel Rivals’ developers to confirm this.
Steam Deck and Bluestacks Users Also Getting Banned
Reports have also been that players using Steam Deck have been banned from the game. The reason for this is still unknown since Steam Deck is Steam itself’s official console, so it’s likely a mistake on the anti-cheat software system. On the other hand, players with BlueStacks installed on their PCs have also received punishment even if they aren’t using them to play Marvel Rivals. Users realized that the anti-cheat software would ban them if they detected an emulator in their system, even if they weren’t using it. It’s highly advised that gamers uninstall emulators on their devices to avoid repercussions.
