Monster Hunter Wilds Increase FPS with Config Typo is Placebo

By | March 3rd, 2025 | Categories: Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter Wilds requires extremely high hardware requirements to run smoothly. Some players claim that the framerate loss is due to a misspelled variable in the game’s config file. However, after some testing, this has been proven otherwise.

Players Speculate on Performance Issues

The game currently suffers from optimization issues, with some reporting consistent framerate dips in certain areas like the Windward Plains and Oilwell Basin biomes. Some have dug through the game’s config files looking for ways to increase performance, with one Monster Hunter member reporting in the Steam forums a typo in one of the config variables. The minimal streaming resolution (or “Resoltuion” in the typo) variable was claimed to be one of many sources of Wild’s poor performance.

Fixing Config Typo Does Not Affect FPS

Unfortunately, this fix will not work. Extensive framerate tests were done after the typo fix, and it has been concluded that this is a placebo. One explanation for the increase in performance is due to certain points in the main questline changing the weather, as some areas have fewer particle and weather effects upon completing a quest.

Capcom Asks Players to Troubleshoot Issues

MH Wilds developer Capcom has posted on social media platform X and the game’s official support desk that players must troubleshoot the game’s performance issues themselves, recommending fixes like antivirus exceptions, graphic driver updates, and settings tweaks. Despite these fixes, Monster Hunter Wilds continues to dip in framerate, even for modern PC specs. The company has issued some patches to the game to fix soft locks, but time will tell if Capcom eventually optimizes the game.
