In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players will get to explore as Yasuke during the game’s tutorial before switching to Naoe. While you won’t be able to play as Yasuke from the get-go, you’ll be able to unlock him easily by progressing through the story.

Naoe and Yasuke’s Difference
While both characters eventually become members of the assassin order, both prefer different fighting styles. Naoe prefers stealth and assassinations as a shinobi. Meanwhile, Yasuke prefers more upfront situations and direct combat due to being trained as a samurai. Many would like to use him due to his playstyle, so, understandably, some gamers would get frustrated with not being able to use Yasuke right away.
How to Unlock Yasuke
Players don’t need to fulfill unique objectives to unlock Yasuke; all they need to do is progress through the story. The samurai returns during the Temple of the Horseman questline but isn’t playable yet. You unlock him after completing the quests “Lightning and Thunder” and “Mibuno Showdown.” Afterward, you can switch between Yasuke and Naoe as your main characters.
You cannot skip to the part where you only play Yasuke, so you’ll be playing as Naoe for a while. It will take eight to 12 hours to progress the storyline to the Temple of the Horseman quest. You can cut the playtime by speedrunning, but exploring and enjoying the initial story as Naoe is better.
Are there Other Playable Characters
No. There aren’t any other playable characters aside from Yasuke and Naoe. However, you can recruit different allies to aid in your mission to combat the Templars. You can also add various features or figures to the assassin hideout.
