Assassin’s Creed Shadows lets you explore feudal Japan as Naoe or Yasuke. During quests, you may stumble upon NPCs who’ll ask you a riddle. Solving the riddles will give you rewards. With this guide, you’ll be prepared to give the right answer every time.

Riddle #1
The first riddle can be encountered randomly in the game, whether you’re playing as Naoe or Yasuke. The NPC giving the riddle is a man and his outfit may vary. Approach him to start the riddle. He’ll make a wager using Mon and when you agree he’ll give the riddle. Here’s the riddle he’s going to ask.
Riddle: I am sucked in from the bottom and let out from the mouth. What am I?
Choices:
- Is it a burp?
- Is it tobacco smoke?
- Is it an evil spirit?
The right answer is “Is it tobacco smoke?” The man will be in despair because he now owes you Mon. You’ll have two choices: “I want my Mon” and “You can keep the Mon.”
If you choose “I want my Mon,” he’ll give you the Mon he wagered. If you choose “You can keep the Mon,” he’ll offer you a reward and it’ll vary from Scout Intel, Legendary Chest locations, a Collection of Crests, or Rumors for a Merchant.
Riddle #2
The second riddle can be encountered in the Katano Kakurega. A noblewoman will call for your attention, her outfits will vary, but she’ll always be an old lady. The woman will talk about the seashell she has. Then she’ll ask you the riddle.
Riddle: “If you are so clever, answer this. Which province does the seashell come from?”
Choices:
- It must be from Omi.
- It is from Kyoto.
- I believe it’s from Wakasa.
The right answer is “I believe it’s from Wakasa.” After that, you’ll have two options for your reward: fill a Scout Spot or reveal a World Rumor. The best option is the World Rumor, which will likely be the Butterfly Collector Rumor.
