All Weapons Ranked from Worst to Best in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

By | January 20th, 2025 | Categories: Others

Dynasty Warriors: Origins, the newest entry to Koei’s Musou series, is making waves with the new combat system that allows for skillful dodging and parries to make duels with legendary generals more engaging. Each weapon type that you can use in the game has a unique moveset and Battle Art to change the tide of larger battles. Here are all the weapon types ranked from worst to absolute powerhouse in Dynasty Warrior: Origins.

#10: Gauntlets

The Gauntlets are by far the most difficult weapons to use since these have very low range and your stances require a ramp-up period to deal its damage. Not only that, it can be hard to juggle different stances since the Gauntlets have a more loose combo system compared to the other weapons. Despite its weaknesses, it can deal solid damage if you can work with its stance mechanic. It excels very well in duels, but it isn’t as good for clearing out armies due to its short range.

#9: Staff

While this weapon has a lot of reach, it lacks in damage. Its playstyle encourages enemy juggling since it has good vertical range, but overall, feels too weak even when used against basic footsoldiers. While its basic attacks are very weak, its Battle Arts provides you with good mobility and some decent attack speed. However, the Staff doesn’t warrant any use once you reach the later stages of the game.

#8: Lance

This weapon encourages players to soak up as much damage as possible for a punishing counterattack. While this mechanic is lethal in theory, it only works in a few scenarios like being surrounded by an enemy army or fighting an overly aggressive general. The Lance definitely works very well when used as intended, but that would require knowing when to use its endure mechanic.

#7: Twin Pikes

The Twin Pikes is a solid weapon type that is easy to use for clearing out armies and has some decent Battle Arts for dueling. Its Battle Arts are a bit finicky to use since it knocks back enemies away from its larger, harder-hitting attacks. Other than its one weakness, the Twin Pikes are a great beginner-friendly weapon that can do well in most situations without having any complexity in its moveset.

#6: Crescent Blade

This weapon can dish out a ton of damage easily, though its swings are pretty slow. Using the Crescent Blade requires a bit of foresight since its moveset doesn’t have much mobility and can leave you wide open for counterattacks, especially when you execute its Battle Arts. Still, this weapon can clear out hordes very well and is a good option for dueling against other generals.

#5: Sword

The Sword is the veritable jack-of-all-trades weapon type, not boasting any particular strengths while also not having any apparent weaknesses. It lies in the middle of the road in terms of damage, speed, and range, but it is pretty useful in all situations. If you can’t decide on a weapon type to main, Swords are a great fallback option as you don’t need much investment into learning its moveset.

#4: Podao

This weapon has some extremely slow swing speeds that deal heavy damage. However, be warned that its basic attacks and Battle Arts leave you vulnerable to hits that can stagger you out of your animations. In terms of damage, it does a ton of damage per swing, but you’ll need to stand still to charge up your heaviest attack, which can be easily punished if you use it while out of position. Despite its glaring weakness, the Podao is a rewarding weapon to use.

#3: Spear

You should be familiar with this weapon since it’s the one used in the tutorial. The Spear has great range and great defensive skills, especially with its easier parry function. It has solid damage for both its basics and Battle Arts, though most of its range only works for enemies in front of you and not the ones behind you or at your sides. Still, the Spear is a versatile weapon as it performs well in duels and can reliably clear out hordes.

#2: Wheels

The Wheels are by far the second-best weapon type as it has an absurd amount of range for its attacks while dealing massive damage at the same time. The only reason it stays in 2nd place is that using the Wheels effectively requires a bit of timing your heavy attack inputs, which can be difficult when you’re focusing on parrying and dodging attacks. Mastering this weapon’s quirks will elevate it as an equal to the top-performing weapon in the game.

#1: Halberd

Being Lu Bu’s signature weapon, the Halberd is the absolute most overpowered weapon in the game. Its basic attacks are powerful enough to spam on duels, let alone against basic units. Its Battle Arts have full 360 AoE coverage and can end duels in a couple of seconds. The Halberd, for all its power, is very easy to use since all its best moves are simple to execute. Once you unlock this weapon type upon beating the game, you’ll be able to go through New Game Plus fast.
