Best Avowed Wizard Build (Frost Wizard)

Avowed Wizards focus on overwhelming their opponents with pure arcane energy. Creating a build for this class requires maxing out your total damage and choosing the best specialization for your character. Since you can also multi-class in Avowed, you can pick one more role to help your survivability. This guide will show you the best Wizard build in the game.

Avowed Wizard Build Overview
Wizards are expert spellcasters, but they do lack defensive capabilities. They mainly rely on slaying their enemies before they can get anywhere near them. However, since Avowed allows multi-classing, you can choose another class to help find more suitable defensive options. While you can choose from many fields of magic, the Frost path is the best one to go for.
Best Stats Priority
Regarding stats, you’ll want to maximize your ability to cast more spells while maxing out total damage. Defensive attributes are inconsequential, so focus on ones that allow you to dish out destructive spells. Here are the best stats to invest in in order:
- Intellect
- Perception
- Might
- Resolve
- Dexterity
- Constitution
Intellect raises Essence, which in turn lets you cast more spells. Meanwhile, Perception increases Crit Hit chance, which is essential for increasing total damage output. Might is the next best stat because it increases raw spell damage and weapon DPS. If you’re having Stamina problems, investing in Resolve would be a great option. Dexterity and Constitution aren’t things you want to invest much in because their perks don’t provide significant benefits to Wizards.
Best Abilities and Skill Tree
One thing that players need to learn regarding Wizards is the Grimoire +1 mechanic. Aside from letting you use skills even if you haven’t unlocked them in the skill tree, Grimoires provide a +1 to the skill tree of an ability when you use them. If you have 2 points on Blizzard and use it via the Grimoire, you get 3 points on the Skill Tree for that ability. Here are all the abilities you should get for this build:
Active
- +4 in Grimoire Mastery
- +2 on Blizzard (and +1 with Grimoire)
- +2 on Crackling Bolt (and +1 with Grimoire)
- Arcane Veil
- +2 Pull of Eora (and +1 with Grimoire)
- +2 Freezing Pillar (and +1 with Grimoire)
- +2 Meteor Shower (and +1 with Grimoire)
Note: If you don’t have the Grimoire for specific skills, you should consider maxing them to 3 points in the Skill Tree until you can find one.
Passive
- Wand Mastery
- Harvest Essence
- Secret of Rime
Note: Invest points depending on your preference. Ideally, you’ll want to put more points on Secret of Rime and Harvest Essence. However, consider adding more to Wand Mastery if you use your Wand weapon more often.
Passive from Other Classes
While you’ll want to focus on the Wizard Skill Tree, you’ll also want to invest some points in passives of other classes that benefit our build. You won’t be touching their active skills because you probably won’t be using them. Here are all the passive abilities from other classes that you should get:
Ranger Passives
- +1 Quick Switch
- Critical Strike (can +3)
Fighter
- Inspiring Triumph (can +2)
Quick Switch only requires one investment point to swap between different weapon loadouts easily. Inspiring Triumph is crucial because it gives our companions enough sustainability to survive engagements.

- Giatta: buffs your character and offers massive sustain
- Marius: provides great DPS against low HP enemies
- Yatzli: continuously fires projectiles at enemies
- Kai: can taunt enemies to pull aggro away and knock them down
This is everything you’ll need to optimize this build fully. You can be creative in certain aspects, but the skill tree abilities should be faithfully followed to maximize your damage.
