Best Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Training Guide

By Karl Reyes | July 7th, 2025 | Categories: Others

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby can seem daunting at first, especially since the game doesn’t go into detail about how training works and how you can boost up your stats very high. If you want to win the URA Finale and get your favorite horse up to the A-tiers, this guide will help you optimize your training to become the Finale Champion.

Build Friendship Gauges First

The deck you assign to your trainee is one of the most important mechanics in Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, as these will drastically increase the amount of stats you gain per training. When you establish max support with a support character of your choice, they’ll trigger Friendship Training when assigned to the proper stat training.

For example, the Super Creek [Piece of Mind] support card is a Stamina card that has a passive effect, making Super Creek more likely to appear at the Stamina training option. Once you reach max Friendship with her, she’ll trigger Friendship Training whenever you train Stamina with her.

During your first two goals, always prioritize maxing out all friendships as soon as possible. This way, you can get way more stat points out of training once you start reaching the mandatory G1 and URA Finale races.

Stat Prioritization

Once your support card friendships are maxed out, you can start leveling your trainee to get the most stats possible. This is the priority list you’ll need to follow:

Speed > Power > Stamina > Wit > Guts

Speed is important for self-explanatory reasons, but Power and Stamina are also important. Power helps your trainee accelerate quicker to their highest possible speed and break away from large packs to find a better position, while Stamina keeps your trainee from slowing down due to fatigue

There is a hidden Stamina requirement for each race distance type. Once you meet the stat threshold, there’s no need to level Stamina any further.

Sprint150 Stamina
Mile300 Stamina
Medium400 Stamina + 1 stamina recovery skill
600500+ Stamina + 1 gold stamina recovery skill

Wit governs the chance of skill activation during a race. Currently, stopping at 300 is the best option, as this gives you a 70% chance for skill procs, with diminishing returns beyond 300. Training Wit also gives you a small amount of Energy instead of reducing it, like other training methods.

Lastly, the Guts stat has limited use currently, as it only reduces the amount of stamina drained during a race. This stat will be buffed soon, but for now, skip training this stat.

Choose Energy Restoration During Events

Energy is vital for building up high stats since you’re trying to keep up with the other horses in your career. Failing a training session can be a run killer, as you not only waste a turn but also lower your trainee’s mood and sustain an injury that requires another turn in the Infirmary.

Whenever an event pops up with a dialogue choice that gives you Energy, choose that over the options that increase your stats or skill points. This is especially best during New Year’s Eve when the second option will give you 20 Energy. The stats you gain through an event are far less than the amount you gain by regular training.

Selecting The Right Skills

Skills are the deciding factors of whether your trainee wins a race or not. Each skill comes in four types: Stamina regen, velocity skills, debuffs, and stat buffs. Choosing the right skills that are most relevant to your racer is key to winning the URA Finale. If your trainee specializes in a racing style (i.e, End Chaser or Front Runner), pick the skills that have the appropriate tag. Gold skills are particularly valuable since they don’t need a prerequisite style or race distance to proc.
