Where is Xur?

Everyone’s favorite exotic item merchant is back! Being one of the most iconic characters in the Destiny world, Xur is the merchant everyone waits for, because of the rare items he brings with every visit. In this guide, I’ll be covering Xur’s location, his inventory, and an overview of each item this rotation.

For new players, Xur is a merchant character who visits the solar system and brings exotic items in each rotation. He offers items for each class, a weapon, and an Engram that will reward you a unique Exotic item that you don’t already have. You can use Legendary Shards to buy these items from Xur, and the item level will be determined by your Light Level. Legendary Shards can be obtained by dismantling Legendary Items, or via The Spider on the Tangled Shore. Xur appears at 10am PT/1pm ET.

Where is Xur? This time around, Xur is located in the European Dead Zone on the cliff near the Winding Cove. You can find this location near a crashed ship. If you’ve never seen him before, he’ll be a cloaked, hooked, and pretty well camouflaged figure waiting for you. You will not find a marker or indicator over him, and will have to approach him directly if you want to talk to him.

What is Xur offering?

Xur’s main appeal is always the exotic items he brings up, and the variety of rolls that can be found on the armor with each rotation. If you’ve missed any items, are a new player, or are simply looking for better rolls, here’s what Xur has for you:

Weapons:

  • The Colony | Grenade Launcher|  29 Legendary Shards

Armor:

  • Orpheus Rig | Hunter | Leg Armor | 23 Legendary Shards
  • Karnstein Armlets | Warlock | Gauntlets | 23 Legendary Shards
  • Ashen Wake | Titan | Gauntlets | 23 Legendary Shards

Engrams:

Isochronal Engram | 97 Legendary Shards

(PS: This Engram will reward you a Year 1 OR Foresaken exotic that you don’t already have. The item will be randomly chosen.)

Other:

  • The Invitation | Quest | 9 Legendary Shards
  • Five of Swords | Challenge
  • The Colony, Grenade Launcher

Man, I love this weapon. It’s great especially in PvP, but you’ll have a blast with this even in PvE. It’s a grenade launcher from the Curse of Osiris expansion, and is one of the signature and well-respected exotic weapons in the game.

It has an exotic perk called Insectoid Robot Grenades, that does exactly what it sounds like. Every shot missed will cause the grenade to break down into tiny, “insectoid” robots that will track enemies in the proximity. It also has a perk called Serve the Colony that reloads the weapon if it is put away for a short duration. It also offers improved shooting speed, blast radius, and stability.

It’s a pretty enjoyable weapon, and unlike other grenade launchers, won’t waste ammo since you’re technically never missing your aim (unless you shoot into the abyss).

Orpheus Rig, Hunter Legs

Hunters get the best Exotics, don’t they? Orpheus Rig is a Hunter class Leg armor, and is one of the most useful Exotic items in the game. If you time your Hunter’s Super right, you can easily regenerate a large amount of Super Energy back because of the perk Uncanny Arrows, which generates your Super Energy for each enemy bound by Hunter’s Shadowshot. It also provides increased mobility and resilience, and a boosted chance to find special ammo on kill.

Rolls:

  • Slot #1 Options: Pulse Rifle Dextrerity/Traction/Kinetic Dextrerity
  • Slot #2 Options: Submachine Gun Scavenger, Special Ammo Finder
  • Karnstein, Warlock Armlets

Karnstein is a pretty good addition to your Warlock kit due to its melee-oriented perk. Melee damage will boost your melee cooldown. Melee kills will also generate health due to its Vampire’s Caress perk, which includes additional health regenerated over time. Health or Super regeneration automatically makes armor pieces worth it, and plenty of Warlock builds already being melee-focused, Karnstein adds a lot to your survivability on field. Be sure to grab this one if you use Warlocks. Along with resilience, these armlets also provide increased mobility, and a high chance of finding special ammo with each enemy killed.

Ashen Wake, Titan Gauntlets

I genuinely feel like this class is overlooked by the developers. Titans don’t receive nearly as much versatility as Hunters do, and Ashen Wake is an example of an armor designed to be mediocre at its best.

If equipped on a solar Titan, its perk Bring the Heat makes Fusion Grenades explode on impact. The Grenades also travel faster during their projectile. The perk is very gimmicky and doesn’t add much to gameplay. There are much better contenders for exotic Titan gauntlets that will easily outshine Ashen Wake.

Rolls:

  • Slot #1 Options: Auto Rifle Loader, Light Arms Loader, Enhanced Grenade Launcher
  • Slot #2 Options: Fusion Rifle Scavenger, Special Ammo Finder

The Invitation, Quest

The Invitation quest, available only for Annual Pass holders, is available for purchase for nine legendary shards this time. The quest will allow you to unlock Menagerie, Bungie’s latest group activity, and the Crown of Sorrows raid.

Here are the steps to complete invitation quest:

  1. Visit Benedict 99-40.
  2. Visit Ikora at the Tower.
  3. Visit the barge on Nessus and collect 10 Chalice Fragements by defeating Cabal.
  4. Defeat 25 Vex on Nessus, using melee damage, and without dying.
  5. Do The Conflux (Lost Sector) on Nessus.
  6. Complete Glorious Harvest (bounty).
  7. Visit the barge again.
  8. Complete the Menagerie (accessible via the bottom left corner of the Nessus map).
  9. Open the chest at the end of the Menagerie (requires you to slot a rune in the Chalice).
  10.  Return to the barge again, and a chest will be available for you.

Five of Swords, Challenge

The Five of Swords challenge can be used to add modifiers to Prestige Nightfall missions.

Final Thoughts

That’s it for this rotation! This is a pretty good set of offerings, and (unless you’re a Titan), I would be sure to grab them all. If you’re low on Shards- and I for sure am –hopefully, our Where is Xur? Guide will help you decide.

Meanwhile, the Shadowkeep expansion is getting closer with each day and we can’t wait!
