Uma Musume: Pretty Derby: How To Get A-Rank Trainees

Getting your trainees ready for the URA Finales and other big league races can be tough in Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, especially when starting out with the game while having low-level support cards. Not only that, but energy management can interrupt your training process. There are many ways to get your trainee’s attributes to the A ranks without relying too much on SSR cards through smart management.

Prioritize Friendship Over Stats

At the start of the game, you’re always almost guaranteed to win the first debut race with your trainee, and the stats you gain per training session are relatively low. However, maxing out your friendship gauge to orange with other horses will grant a massive stat bonus called Friendship Training whenever they are assigned to the right training type.

For example, the Special Week welfare SSR support card is a Speed-focused card. When you use that card in your deck, Special Week will appear in your training sessions. If she’s placed on the Speed training option and is at max friendship, she’ll increase the amount of Speed points you get significantly, which can go very high once you reach the last couple of goals for your trainee. This is marked by the training button having a rainbow effect on it.

Level Up Your Support Cards

In Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, support cards matter much more than the actual horses, as these dictate the rate at which your training goes. Higher-level cards mean an early friendship start, better training values, more skill hint procs, and more frequent beneficial events during your run. For the Global version, try to level all your Speed cards firs,t as this will help snowball your trainee’s progression near the end of the Career.

Rest Only When Necessary

Resting may restore a massive chunk of energy, but there are other options for restoring energy. Here are some options you should take whenever your trainee is running out of energy:

  • Training Wit restores energy
  • Picking event dialogue options that restore energy
  • Doing Recreation when your trainee’s mood is low

Only choose the Rest option when training failure rates go past 30-40% as it is the most efficient use of your turns.

Stat Thresholds

To make your trainee officially reach A-rank, the total sum of their attributes and skills must reach 10,000 points. While the attribute sum is self-explanatory, your trainee’s skills are also factored in. Your trainee must have skills that match their best track, distance, and style aptitudes. For example, a trainee with an A-rank aptitude in Front Running must have the Front Runner Straightaways/Corners skill to add more points to their sum.
