Path of Exile 2 Early Access Delayed for MTX Reasons

By | October 31st, 2024 | Categories: Path of Exile

Path of Exile fans are sad to hear that the much-awaited PoE 2 Early Access will be delayed for another three weeks. The game was initially scheduled to go live around mid-November, but the beta will be moved to December 6 after devs decided to do some fine-tuning. However, the reason for the delay is entirely legitimate, which many players understand.

PoE 2 Delayed for MTX Integration

Aside from new classes and content, one of PoE 2’s most prominent upcoming features is integrating Path of Exile MTX into the second game. Gamers can carry over all their purchases from the previous title to PoE 2, which many players highly appreciate. However, this move also means that GGG must integrate 10 years’ worth of data into the system too.

GGG also intends the MTX data integration to work both ways so players can access cosmetics they bought through PoE 2 to base Path of Exile. While this decision sounds exciting, it also means that developers will have to do a lot of coding and data collection to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

Why Not Just Use Placeholders and Implement MTX Integration Later On

Many fans have asked, “Why not just use placeholders for the early access and implement the MTX data integration during the full release?” While postponing certain features until the full release would allow players to access the Beta now, delaying its testing and implementation would only invite trouble for the devs and gamers later on.

GGG’s decision to delay early access to further strengthen and fine-tune data integration is right. Doing so establishes a strong foundation for this feature when the game eventually does go live. Many gamers agree with this sentiment as they would rather see a clean beta than a half-baked early access. Now, we wait!
