PoE 2 Players Are Abusing Instance Crashing, Which Is a Bannable Offense

By | January 7th, 2025 | Categories: Path of Exile

Path of Exile 2 is no stranger to players trying to exploit certain bugs for currency or gear. The community has managed to figure out one exploit that saves valuable currency, but abusing this bug is considered a violation of Grinding Gear Games’ terms of service. We’ll shed some light on this recent development and why intentionally replicating this bug may risk an account ban.

How Instance Crashing Works

Whenever Path of Exile 2 crashes, all Atlas map instances are reset, and any materials used while inside the map, like Orbs of Alchemy or Exalted Orbs, are also reset. Because of this interaction, players are using high-end crafting currencies like Omens and Orbs to roll for the best Rares. When the item doesn’t roll with the modifiers they want, players can force their instance to crash, which resets the weapon back to its original form while completely refunding all the currencies used.

This issue came in response to the lack of a meta-crafting system that was previously part of PoE 1, which made crafting much less deterministic. PoE 2 is currently in Early Access, so it’s best for players to wait for GGG to update the game with a deterministic crafting system and avoid attempting to replicate this exploit.

Why Is Instance Crashing Liable For A Ban?

As part of Path of Exile 2’s Terms of Service, GGG can ban accounts for any reason. This also includes using in-game exploits to generate currencies or bugged items. The instance crashing issue has previously been present in Path of Exile 1 and has also been considered grounds for termination.

Other exploits like item duping, currency farms, or any other glitch that may affect the economy will be considered a violation.
