PoE 3.26 Whispers of Infinity Enables Some CRAZY New Builds?

Yes! PoE finally got an update after a year, and we’re totally hyped about it. With all the new content that Secrets of the Atlas has introduced, there are also new uniques, which could prove to be gateways into some overpowered builds.
One of these unique items is the Seaglass Amulet, Whispers of Infinity.
Item | Requirements | Breakdown |
---|---|---|
Whispers of Infinity | Level: 74 | (10-15)% faster start of Energy Shield recharge (5-10) to (20-25) added Attack Chaos Damage per 100 Maximum Mana +(200-400) to Maximum Energy Shield (60-40)% reduced Maximum Mana Skills cost Energy Shield instead of Mana or Life |
One of the newly introduced pinnacle bosses, the Incarnation of Dread, drops this item. And while the data minions still haven’t shown actual data points, the drop rate seems to be around 40%. And since the roll ranges are very large, it’s good that you get to farm (or perhaps buy) one that has close to max rolls. Either that or try your luck at divining it.
Note: Another thing that makes great use of its high drop chance, or how cheap it is, is how you can go for double corruptions at the Temple of Atzoatl. So you’re looking for +% to all max resistances, additional curse, aura effect modifiers depending on your build, etc.
The amulet gives flat added chaos damage per max mana. And if you go mana-heavy, this is going to translate into a solid chunk. Especially if you pair it with other sources that give damage based on mana, such as the unique Mind of the Council, or the skill gems Arcane Cloak, Kinetic Blast of Clustering, Power Siphon of the Archmage. However, the damage you get from Whispers is chaos, meaning you can always scale it with Wither or Poison.
Do keep in mind that the amulet also reduces max mana by a large percentage. This modifier is additive, meaning that even if you get a perfect roll of 40%, you’ll still need to spend about 2-4 increased mana nodes on the passive tree to cancel out this effect. So, if you had around 5,000 max mana (after all the calculations), you’d be getting 500-1250 added attack chaos damage – which is A LOT! And with high investment, your maximum mana can go beyond 5,000.
The amulet can also give you +400 flat maximum energy shield, which is crazy good considering the slot. And to complement this, and also what makes this amulet insane, is the line, “Skills cost energy shield instead of mana or life.” We’ll come back to how you can take advantage of this effect.
So you’ve got two ways to go about this:
- You either have enough ES, paired with recovery and leech, to sustain skills costs, or
- Utilize the Eldritch Battery keystone to prevent incoming damage and remove all of your ES, meaning you can’t use your skills anymore
Let’s take a look at both options.
Table of Contents
Option A)
Some options available to you if you opt for this route are the Divine Shield keystone paired with self-damaging skills such as Boneshatter, which stacks up a lot of ES recovery this way, meaning that even if you get hit by a powerful hit, your ES will pop back up quickly, allowing you to continue using your skills.
You could also utilize the Corrupted Soul keystone to get 50% of non-chaos damage taken to bypass ES.
Furthermore, you can use the Zealot’s Oath keystone so that your life regen applies to ES instead.
If none of these options work for you, you can always take Divine Flesh, which causes all damage taken to bypass ES. However, keep in mind that this will prevent your ES’s natural recovery, since you’re taking damage as life, the resource that ES is protecting, so you’ll need a reliable ES recovery method with that one.
Option B)
If you go for Eldritch Battery, the ‘before Mana’ part doesn’t matter since Whispers already forces you to spend ES instead of Mana. But, the huge advantage of taking EB is that it’ll prevent damage from stopping ES recharge.
If you’re stacking a lot of mana to get that added chaos damage, you don’t want to be stuck with all that extra mana that isn’t of any use. You could take Mind Over Matter to get some of the damage taken from Mana before Life, but then you’d also be losing the advantage of going EB in the first place.
You could also reserve all your mana against auras/reservation skills, since you still get the same added chaos damage, so you’re ok in that department. But this would seem like a waste, since a percentage of your mana is being reserved, meaning you’re losing on HUGE chunks of mana there without any great benefits.
So to add to that, you could then combine Mind Over Matter with Divine Flesh, where you’ll have all the damage bypass ES, and then 40% of that damage will be taken from your huge Mana pool before life, adding to your effective life total. You’ll then just need to solve the ES self-regen thing by adding ES regeneration or ES leech (or both).
Once you’ve decided on which path to take, we’re coming back to the last line of the amulet.
The skill Forbidden Rite of Soul Sacrifice (the transfigured version of the skill) deals chaos damage based on your max ES instead of your max life. Now, these skills were introduced to the game back in 3.23, and it was balanced around the fact that it costs life to cast as default. And there wasn’t anything you could do about this.
But, now, with Whispers introduced, you could play a full Chaos Inoculation; the amulet makes any life/mana cost be paid in ES instead. Meaning you can go full bonkers on stacking massive amounts of ES, and run your build just like that. CI means you take no self-damage from casting the skill. After that, focus on getting A LOT of recovery for your energy shield. This way, you also don’t really care about the downside that the amulet has, the reduced max mana part, since all skills are paid in ES instead of mana, meaning you get to reserve all your mana for auras and other reserve skills.
On top of all that, you get a super huge flat (up to) 400 flat max ES, or even up to 480 max roll ES with catalyst. Probably the most broken thing about the amulet, and this after you’ve already chosen your main attacking skill, plus you’ve only used 1 item slot (amulet) with the rest still available.
Note: An alternative to the Forbidden Rite of Soul Sacrifice is Wild Strike of Extremes, which usually requires you to pay with life, mana, and ES, but with this amulet, you simply pay triple the ES cost and use the skill without worrying about your life OR mana.
So yeah, time will tell whether this item is broken or busted. But one thing’s for sure, it’s going to be interesting. We’ll keep you updated.
Stay sane, Exiles!
