How to Beat Golgra in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Boss Guide)

By Elijah | May 5th, 2025 | Categories: RPG

Golgra is an optional boss players can encounter at any stage of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Fans can agree that she’s among the most challenging bosses to beat in a duel. If you’re a completionist and want to defeat all the bosses in the game, here’s a guide on defeating Golgra.

Where to Find Golgra in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Golgra is located at the Gestral Village. You’ll first encounter her after defeating the Ultimate Sakapatate at the Chief House. After the events at Gestral Village, you’ll need to find the password to enter Esquie’s Nest. After finding the password, you can provoke Golgra to a duel.

You can also encounter Golgra at the Dark Gestral Arena. In the encounter, you’ll first need to defeat 3 bosses before you can provoke her to a duel. It’s best to encounter her at Gestral Village since you only need to find the password to the nest before you can duel her.

When Should You Provoke Golgra to a Duel?

Since you’ll encounter Golgra very early in the game, it’s best to provoke her in a duel when you’ve reached level 50. Beating her during the game’s early stages is impossible since her health is at a million, and she can one-shot low-level characters. Provoking Golgra can be done at any time, and if you use Monoco to challenge her to a duel, it’ll skip to the dialogue and head straight into the fight.

How to Beat Golgra in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Unlike other boss fights, Golgra is a solo fight. To help you defeat her and overcome her high health, here’s a boss guide on her mechanics and which abilities to equip for your build.

Golgra’s Mechanics

Golgra’s attacks focus on kicks, and her pattern seems delayed before each kick. If you learn the timing, you can easily parry her kicks. Be warned, though, if you miss parrying or blocking the attacks, you’ll be hit with five to seven thousand damage.

When Golgra is down to half her health, she’ll change forms. Her attack patterns will change to more complex combos. They’re still based on the attacks of her previous form, but you’ll have to be careful when she shakes the earth. Avoid them by jumping over them and following them up with a gradient counter.

Best Ways to Beat Golgra

Beating Golgra can take a lot of time due to her million-health bar and heavy damage that can one-shot a low-level character. Here are some ways to beat Golgra.

  • Use Golgra’s Break Meter to incapacitate her and deal damage while weakened, or use any Stun abilities if you can’t fill her Break Meter.
  • Equip Paintress Power to counter Golgra’s large health bar. Paintress Power removes the damage cap, and you can deal even more damage to Golgra.
  • Use Cheater Lumina to act twice, allowing you to buff your attack before executing it.
  • Take advantage of the Last Stand Lumina. It gives a buff when fighting alone.
  • Use Inverted Affinity, Glass Cannon, and Warming Up Luminas to get an extra boost of damage. It pairs well with Paintress Power.
  • Equipping Empowered Dodge, Empowered Parry, and Augmented Counter makes your character more consistent in dodging and blocking Golgra’s heavy damage attacks.
  • First Strike and Augmented First Strike give an extra kick of damage at the beginning, which pairs well with Cheater. You can set it up for the first act and then execute the attack for the next.

Using these abilities and Luminas against Golgra can give you an edge in the duel, but you’ll still have to be knowledgeable at parrying and dodging her attacks.

Golgra Boss Rewards

Each character you provoke Golgra with a duel will receive a Gestral-themed weapon. Here are all the rewards each character gets from the boss fight.

  • Gustave or Verso: Sakaram
  • Lune: Trebuchim
  • Maelle: Medalum
  • Sciel: Hevason
  • Monoco: Sidaro

Aside from the personal Gestral-themed weapon, you’ll also receive 2,250,000 XP, 3 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, and 1 Recoat.
