How to Solve the Two Picture Puzzle in Blue Prince

By | April 14th, 2025 | Categories: Single-Player

Blue Prince has many puzzles to solve, but one that’s left players scratching their heads is the pictures in every room. Every room’s paintings, pictures, or drawings play an essential role in a bigger puzzle. Here’s an in-depth guide on how to solve the Two Picture Puzzle.

Where to Start in the Two Picture Puzzle

To begin the puzzle, you’ll need to head to the Commissary. There, you’ll find a bulletin board with a picture labeled WITH and another labeled WITHOUT. That is the biggest clue to solving the puzzle. You need to subtract one picture from the other using the two pictures in the rooms.

When you head to the Study, the puzzle becomes even clearer. You’ll find a big hint on how to put it all together on the chalkboard. There’s a 5×9 grid with one missing square in the top middle and the letter F in the bottom middle of the grid with a note saying, “Face & Ace.” Using the hints, you need to find and subtract the letter that both pictures don’t have. So, for FACE and ACE, only F would remain. Here’s a copy of the grid you’ll find on the chalkboard. Solving the grid will give you a bigger hint about the game.

How to Solve the Two Picture Puzzle

You can now solve the Two Picture Puzzle with the Commissary and Study hints. Head to the rooms that have two pictures on them, and you’ll have to figure out which one letter needs to be subtracted and put on the grid. Here are some answers since the fun part of puzzles is solving them.

In one of the rooms, you’ll find a picture of pudding and a desert. Pudding can be considered a DESSERT, and the picture of DESERT is self-explanatory. So, the letter you get from subtracting the two pictures is S.

Another example is the picture of a coast and a cost tag. The pictures give you COAST and COST; the remaining letter is A

Here’s how you plot down the letters on the grid. The house in Blue Prince lines up with the 5×9 grid. Each square on the grid represents a room, so as you explore each room, you’ll solve for the missing letter on the grid.

Answer to the Two Picture Puzzle (Spoilers)

If you’re not as patient as other players in solving the puzzle, here’s the answer to the Two Picture Puzzle.

I F W E
C O U N T
S M A L L
G A T E S
E I G H T
D A T E S
C R A C K
E I G H T
S A F E S

The answer to the puzzle reveals a hint that anything that requires a code or combination, such as safes, is looking for a date. It means rooms such as the Orchard Gate, Office, Study, Boudoir, and Shelter need a code based on a date to open the safes.
