Lords of the Fallen how to get Umbral Scouting
As you become more familiar with the environmental obstacles and realm-jumping in Lords of the Fallen, you’ll notice that you’re slowly gathering a collection of Umbral Scouring-related items. These items are used as currency to purchase boss-related abilities and equipment known as Remembrances from Molhu at the Skyrest hub.
Boss items in Lords of the Fallen are extremely powerful in the hands of a character built around specific accessories and stats. Giving up some of the currency for a weapon or two can be a good trade-off, depending on the build you’re going for. There are a couple of ways to get Umbral Scouring, and this guide will show you all of them.

Why Players in Lords of the Fallen Seek Scouring
Umbral Scouring plays a pivotal role in your character, as you can use the in-game currency to enhance your gear and abilities. Plus, if you’re looking to acquire Remembrances, you’ll need a lot of it. The currency can generally be obtained by interacting with Umbral Stigmas and killing bosses, but we’ll share many more methods you can utilize here.
Getting Umbral Scouring
There are multiple ways to get Umbral Scouring in Lords of the Fallen.
Slay Unique Umbral Enemies
You’ll occasionally find Umbral Scouring as drops from Umbral enemies, like those pesky zombie-spawning fliers or the reaper. You can beef up your Radiance stat to increase your drop rate for Umbral Scouring, but of course, there’s no 100% guarantee that you’ll get the currency every time.
There are many unique Umbral enemies to defeat in the later zones of the game, like Pilgrim’s Perch and Calrath. If you want to maximize your farming time, we highly recommend you plant a Vestige Seedling near where the enemies spawn. This will serve as a checkpoint for you when you’re deep in monster territory.
Summoning the Red Reaper Using the Dread Meter
Filling out the Dread Meter is simple. First, take a lantern and go to the Umbral Realm. You’ll notice an eye in the upper-right corner of your screen when you’re in the location. This is known as the Dread Meter. If the eye is closed, it means you’re in a safe area, but the eye should be open if you’re not.
You need to go to a place to keep the eye open consistently. Then, you must wait until the eye reaches x3 (the number above it). The number will only be x1 at first, but the more you wait in the Umbral Realm, the bigger the number becomes. While waiting, you can choose to kill enemies or explore.
The main thing you’ll have to worry about is to keep the eye open. If you enter a safe zone in the Umbral Realm and the eye is closed for a long time, the number will reset, and you’ll have to wait for it to reach x3 again. When the Dread Meter finally reaches x3, the eye will light up red, resulting in the appearance of the Red Reaper.
How to Defeat the Red Reaper in Lords of the Fallen
The Red Reaper is by far the strongest Umbral Entity you can encounter in the entire game, but your efforts won’t be in vain once you defeat it, as it’ll reward you with 5 Umbral Scouring. Lucky for you, we’ve got some tips we can impart to help you kill it:
- Before the Red Reaper dives underground, kill him before doing so. This will let you avoid a long fight.
- The Red Reaper uses two scythes, and their attacks are powerful, so you can get one-tapped. Try to dodge and keep moving all the time until you find an opening.
- Since you’ll constantly be moving and avoiding the Red Reaper’s attacks, it’s best to use a weapon that can deal decent damage and hit quickly simultaneously. For this scenario, Daggers and Fists work best.
Interact With Umbral Stigmas
You can get more Umbral Scouring for Molhu by interacting with Umbral Stigmas. Stigmas are fragments of past events that occurred, and blue moths in the Axiom Realm represent them. As you approach the moths, transition into Umbral and use a Soulflay on the Stigma to activate it. You’ll witness a short flashback of a past life and receive an Umbral Scouring at the end.
You don’t need to finish listening to a character’s past life. If you’re in a rush to receive your Umbral Scouring, you can skip it, and the currency will still appear in your inventory. Umbral Stigmas usually reward you with 2 Umbral Scourings—sometimes even more.
Final Touches
And that’s about it for the best ways to farm Umbral Scourings in Lords of the Fallen! You’ll need to put in some time to get them if you want to get powerful boss items and weapon or armor sets to really take your character to the next level.
