After the success of Overwatch, Blizzard Entertainment decided to make a free-to-play sequel providing new content, interface, and rebalanced heroes to keep things fresh in Overwatch 2. Here are Overwatch 2 new characters to keep an eye on.

What’s New in Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 will feature both new PvE and PvP modes, with more maps and heroes than the previous title had. Another significant change would be the 6v6 PvP mode becoming 5v5 instead. Limiting the number of tanks to just one while still having two damage and two support heroes. The PvE story missions are unavailable on Overwatch 2, but the story continues where the last game left off.

The story missions are set after Overwatch was recalled by Winston, which was shown in a cinematic called “Zero Hour.” In PvE, a new feature to upgrade and customize abilities have been added. When entering a PvE mission will include items that players can pick up that will add different effects to abilities, such as healing, damage, barriers, etc. The missions are expected to be launched in 2023.

Kiriko

Role: Support

Origin: Kanezaka, Japan

First Appearance: Overwatch 2

As a support type of character, Kiriko sends multiple healing projectiles to her teammate’s way as a healer and assassin. Combining her healing ability with a Swift Step to teleport herself at a certain distance, she becomes an effective healer, dodging any attack that comes her way to defend herself. Her attacks throw kunai’s that can deal significant headshot damage. Her ultimate “Protection Suzu” defends her allies by making them invulnerable for a short time.

Kiriko is a skilled martial artist with supernatural abilities. Raised by her grandmother and mother in Kanezaka, she studied the traditions and importance of looking after the Fox Shrine and the community. Her grandmother heavily influences her fighting style. Kiriko learned the different ways of healing and summoning the Fox Spirit. Kiriko’s mother, on the other hand, trained Genji and Hanzo Shimada with the ways of the sword and other ninja skills. Growing up, she spent a lot of time with the two brothers, was a frequent visitor of the Shimada Castle, and spent years of her childhood in awe with the Kanezaka’s fireworks from the End of Summer Festival.

Ten years later, the enemy of the Kanezaka, Hashimoto, was successful in taking over the Shrine. Kiriko, determined to take back her home, wanted to fight back against Hashimoto. Using the skills taught by her grandmother, she became a force of nature.

Sojourn

Role: Damage

Origin: Toronto, Canada

First Appearance: Overwatch 2

She is a soldier with a powerful Disruptor Shot and great with zoning while dealing damage over time from her abilities. Equipped with a fast-firing railgun, she deals consistent high damage with a secondary fire when the rain gun has been charged. Sojourn’s power side can provide fast mobility and even allows her to jump high enough to reach higher ground easily.

Vivian Chase was required to have cybernetic upgrades as a child in Toronto, which led her to become a member of the Canadian Special Forces, where she participated in the Omnic Crisis event. Her unit, in this war, was partnered with Overwatch. After the war, Jack Morrison, a member of Overwatch, reached out to Chase to join Overwatch herself. She optimistically agreed.

Years later, Vivian donned the codename Sojourn and became one of the former members when Winston recalled Overwatch. She rejoined the organization when a Null Sector attacked Paris. Sojourn already knows Nulls Sector and has faced it in Toronto, giving them a tactical advantage. By the time the enemy was defeated, she had rejoined Overwatch and had now become part of the new roster.

Junker Queen

Role: Tank

Junker Queen is battle-ready with her pump-action shotgun, an axe, and a throwing knife. She does not deal much damage but can wear them down over time; with health regeneration, she is a durable tank in the match. Her ultimate, Commanding Shout, can immediately buff her teammates to gain temporary health and movement speed, including herself.

The Queen of Junkertowen, a cut-throat leader of the Junkers, is a fierce warrior who is no stranger to survival. Each city to her is a battlefield, while every seat is her throne. Her ideals make her believe that the entire planet and its inhabitants are all her subjects. Her life was never empty with the blood thirst to fight.
