Renata in League of Legends is a formidable enchantress that can sway anyone to play on her side of The Rift; it’s safe to say that she’s a badass that you wouldn’t want to mess with. With her being such a unique champion in the pool of characters you can choose in League of Legends, you’ll have to do a bit of digging if you want to turn Renata into the best support any team can have. This Renata League of Legends Build Guide will do just that.

This guide will go over the best build and runes you can do with Renata and what champions she best synergizes with. Besides that, we’ll also have a look at her story.

The Best Rune Path for Renata League of Legends

Renata is primarily a support champion—it’s what Riot advertised her as. But her skillset will make you play her, similar to a mage. We highly recommend going for the Sorcery tree when choosing her runes.

Summon Aery is the best choice if you’re going for an all-support build where you can buff and protect your allies. As for the secondary runes, you can pair Summon Aery with Adaptive Focus, Manaflow Band, Scorch, or Transcendence.

However, if you’re thinking of dominating The Rift with her prowess, the Arcane Comet should be the best keystone for the job. Adding Manaflow Band for extra mana, Gathering Storm for that late game bump, and Transcendence for cooldown reduction (CDR) should make her a powerhouse that can shield teammates and annihilate enemy champions.

You can play Renata defensively, too; you can go for Resolve and pair it with Overgrowth and Font of Life to make her tankier than usual. While she won’t be able to deal as much damage compared to her choosing the Arcane Comet or Summon Aery, that extra chunk of HP will increase her overall survivability.

The Best Support Sorcery Build for Renata

Since Renata’s kit doesn’t heavily focus on healing or shielding allies, it’s best to prioritize doing AP damage. The best choice for this is Imperial Mandate since it offers additional Ability Power, Ability Haste, Health, and 100% Base Mana Regeneration. If you want to go all out on the damage department, then Liandry’s would be a fine choice.

Here’s a more in-depth look at the runes you should use for the build:

It’s important to note here that this build—while it mainly prioritizes dealing damage—still retains a hint of survivability, which is why we have the Resolve Tree as our secondary runes. Summon Aery is the best primary Sorcery rune you can get for Renata since it gives additional shielding and, when paired with Scorch, makes for a troublesome duo for the enemy team.

Here’s the build itself:

  • Imperial Mandate (can be exchanged for Rylai’s)
  • Ionian Boots of Lucidity
  • Shard of True Ice
  • Chemtech Purifier
  • Vigilant Wardstone
  • Zhonya’s Hourglass

The Best Tank Support Build for Renata in League of Legends

You’ll see many people building Renata like an Enchanter, but you can also go with the Tank Support route. The best thing about Renata is that she offers a ton of peel and can facilitate the team’s carries in a way that no other support champion can. The best thing you can do as a support in League of Legends these days is to stay alive as long as possible, hence why having a tankier build helps.

Here are the runes you’ll need to use for this build:

Domination TreeEyeball CollectionRelentless Hunter

Since you’re using Renata as a peel enchanter for this build, Guardian works well as a primary rune. Besides adding an extra shield to your kit, Guardian also helps you keep the carries alive—especially in the early game.

Since Renata’s abilities can impair a lot of an enemy’s movements, it’s precisely why being able to heal allies while doing so simultaneously is amazing. Font of Life adds an extra utility to Renata’s kit; you don’t have to do anything special to trigger it.

There are already tons of resistances for Renata if you add Frozen Heart, Locket of the Iron Solari, and perhaps Force of Nature (or Anathema’s Chains). By pairing it with the Conditioning rune, you’ll get an additional 5% resistance increase. Since our aim here is to keep Renata peeling for her team and staying alive as much as possible, Conditioning is the perfect fit for this build.

Here’s the tank support build for Renata:

  • Spellthief’s Edge
  • Mercury’s Treads (can be exchanged for Plated Steelcaps depending on the situation)
  • Locket of the Iron Solari
  • Knight’s Vow
  • Frozen Heart
  • Anathema’s Chains (can be exchanged for Force of Nature or Zhonya’s Hourglass)

The Perfect Team Composition for Renata

Renata especially shines in team comps that want to crowd together since her abilities and ultimate yield tons of AoE damage. In the bot lane, Renata is great with ADCs like Jinx or Samira, who can utilize her Bailout (W) to the best of their abilities. Should a dive go wrong with either champ, they’ll at least have plenty of damage to go for the kill.

As for ADCs that should be avoided, Caitlyn is number one on the list. That’s because Caitlyn has a much longer range than Renata, resulting in the support not being able to reach Caitlyn with her Handshake (Q) to start a skirmish.

Renata’s Lore

In the early years of Renata Glasc, life wasn’t so great. While her parents were brilliant alchemists with the talent for the healing arts—giving care and cures to anyone in need across Zaun—the poor patient could never afford them. And yet, Renata’s parents continued to give to the community. This led to Renata getting accustomed to going to bed hungry—resentful of her parents’ ideologies. She was powerless to change her circumstances then, but she dreamt of taking the wheel of the ships that sailed through the Sun Gate Canal of Piltover, imagining that she could steer her life in a new direction.

When she was at the ripe age to join the family business, Renata’s parents quickly realized that their daughter had no aptitude for alchemy—but she had ideas of how to turn a profit. Renata convinced her parents in her first sales pitch, stating that if they started treating the wealthier Zaunites, they wouldn’t need to for asking anything more than what their patients could give. Thanks to these wealthy patients, the charity work of the Glasc family was soon paid for.

Instead of using the hard-earned money to live a comfortable life, Renata’s parents spent the money to develop a Chemtech formula that could extend the lives of the sickest of patients. Unfortunately, the formula had a few…hiccups. It always had unwanted side effects—like making their patients extremely violent or vulnerable. Renata wondered if the formula could be beneficial as is; little did she know that she would later use it to control the world.

Unfortunately, elite clan leaders heard of the Glasc’s family research and paid off a couple of mercenaries to “take care of them.” This resulted in Renata waking up to her parents’ screams as her home burned down. She tried to save them, but she failed—even resulting in losing her arm.

With her family name and scraps of research papers that survived the chaos, Renata built her paltry inheritance into something bigger—something that would give her money, power, and control: an empire.

Fast forward a few years, Glasc Industries took over Zaun by storm. From refineries to chemtech mining operations, Reneta quickly took over the monopolies of each venture. Nowadays, every Piltovan owns at least one product from Glasc Industries, but little did they know that Renata had other plans than being the Chem-Baroness of Zaun. Whoever controls the Sun Gate—the very Sun Gate that Renata’s always dreamt of—controls the flow of trade; whoever controls the trade then controls the world. The corporate darling of Piltover aims to take the world’s source of financial power. With a secret compartment of her parents’ chemtech formula inside every Glasc product, it’s only a matter of time before everyone works for her.
