The Lowdown on Ark Survival Evolved Ragnarok

Ark Survival Evolved Ragnarok

There was a significant amount of dismay and concern coming out of the ARK community as of July 28th. Lead community manager and associate producer “Jat,” (@Jatheish on twitter) took to the ARK forums late Friday night to post some updates about the “state of the ARK.”Emotions dropped and rose as I perused my way through the story posted that evening, and I would like to share them with you. In a nutshell, it focuses on the Ark Survival Evolved Ragnarok update.

As most people would like to have it, sad news first: you can’t enjoy the sunny days without the rainy days, right? Friday was the day that the developers have all been waiting for, the golden ticket of certification for the retail release for ARK: Survival Evolved! Since the process took so long, (and this is where it rains) the release date has been pushed back to August 29th. When the full release is pushed back, it’s only fitting if the DLC takes a hit as well. With an extended release date, comes extra development time for some seemingly cool stuff.

The [Ragnarok] update will feature new biomes, a coastal Wyvern canyon, an epic boss encounter, new engrams, and something secret the Ragnarok team are cooking up! We will also be adding their custom creatures to our main game, which will allow players to transfer them via the CrossARK system, so you’ll be able to bring over your Ice Wyverns to The Island, The Center, and Scorched Earth! What to Look Forward to

Some more updates that we should see in the days leading up to the release include the following:

  • PC/Console performance increases
  • Multiplayer boss updates
  • Creature aging
  • Player hacking
  • DDoS protection
  • Server rentals
  • Crash fixes

Multiplayer bosses look like they’re going to get a rework to keep them as challenging but reprogramming them to not feel like such a daunting, time-consuming task. The update to creatures aging will fix the problem that caused most baby creatures to die out because they weren’t eating/aging correctly as per the initial code.

Hackers and DDosers Beware

What’s going to get implemented in the near future is a quick fix to stop all the unnecessary cheaters that think it’s cool and enjoyable to slip under the map and cause destruction. Not only will there be greater protection from DDoSers, but creators have also announced that players will now be able to rent PC-dedicated console servers.
