How to get Shako in Diablo 4
You’re probably just as surprised as I am to hear that Diablo 4 has six ultra rares that nobody didn’t know existed…until now. To be fair, the game has always been about vanquishing evil and pressing the same set of buttons repeatedly to kill hordes of enemies. All of that is done in the hopes that the mobs drop a new pair of pants or a sword stronger than what you currently have on your character.
During the first and second weeks of Diablo 4, players began to wonder if certain items were put in the game at all. For example, the classic Diablo items such as The Grandfather and Harlequin Crest (Shako) were nowhere to be found. Then, a few people—all with level 100 characters—got Harlequin Crest. The confusion then started; Just how rare are these ultra-rare uniques? When do they drop? Were there more?

Blizzard Steps In to Clear the Air
Adam Jackson—the Lead Class Designer for Diablo 4—took to Twitter to answer some of the players’ burning questions regarding the coveted items. For one, the six most ultra-rare Uniques do exist; you need to have a ton of luck to get them. These items can drop from level 85+ enemies, and you can get them anywhere where you can also get a regular Unique. Furthermore, they always drop at 820 Item Power. Oh, and they’re extremely rare.
What Are Uniques?
Uniques are the best gear you could get in Diablo 4. What makes them special is that they have specific affixes instead of random ones. Moreover, their powers/passives can’t be extracted to another gear. They’re effectively the most powerful items in the game—offering a mix of the strongest abilities and stats. However, this means they’re also incredibly hard to get, so some players initially thought they were bugged or might be in the game until people got to the endgame.
What Are the Six Ultra Rare Uniques?
Here are the six Uniques:
- The Grandfather (Two-handed Sword): Increases Critical Strike Damage by 60-100%
- Harlequin Crest (Helm): Gain 10-20% Damage Reduction. Gain +4 to all skills.
- Doombringer (One-handed Sword): Lucky Hit: Get a 15-25% chance to deal 5,822 Shadow Damage to surrounding enemies. Reduces damage done by enemies by 20% for 5 seconds.
- Melted Heart of Selig (Amulet): Gain 30% Maximum Resource whenever you take damage. Drain 8-3 Resource for every 1% of Life you’d have lost.
- Ring of Starless Skies (Ring): Each consecutive Core Skill that is cast reduces your net Core Skill’s Resource cost by 8-12% up to a maximum of 40%.
- Andariels’ Visage (Helm): Lucky Hit: Gain 15-20% chance to trigger a poison nova that deals 10,077 Poison damage for 5 seconds to enemies within it. The holder also gains 1.3-2% life steal.
Getting the Goods
So just how do you get these ultra-rare loots? Well, Jackson divulged the secret: by being lucky. Whenever you get a Unique, there’s a chance for that Unique to be one of the coveted ultra-rares. With that in mind, the best way to farm the six items is to do content that nets you the most Uniques in a period. Unfortunately, there’s no real apparent way for you to grind for the Harlequin Crest or the rest of the items. Obtaining one of them is essentially the equivalent of winning the lottery.
This isn’t our first ultra-rares in a Diablo title (remember Windforce?). However, you can argue that the past games had more robust trading systems to acquire those items. They were integrated into the economy. On the other hand, the six ultra-rare Uniques can’t be traded to other players, so that’s out of the realm of possibilities.
Given how underpowered Uniques are and their total number in Diablo 4, Blizzard’s way of hiding the best ones behind RNG is understandably rubbing many people wrong. If dozens or a few hundred players can only get them in the entire game, what’s the point of these items even existing? You’d eventually be able to get The Grandfather or Andariels’ Visage in past games, but for some reason, Blizzard made the drop rates for Diablo 4 infinitely lower.
It’s Not That Bad
While most Diablo 4 players aren’t too keen on the items’ drop rates, some are glad these super rare Uniques exist. It fuels excitement within the community if they’re found. Diablo 4 was designed to be a “forever” game that you can play for years or even decades rather than mere months. To be fair, though, these Uniques only surfaced recently, so we’ll see if Blizzard decides to adjust their rates in future updates.
