Overview

October Curse Trials raised the bar of PUBG competitive scene once again this weekend. In this October’s edition of the monthly community event, some of the most skilled challengers from the public ladder took on prominent Twitch streamers and professional players.

The format for the PUBG Curse Trials tournament was designed around two-player teams, the so called “duos.” It was a first-person only matchup with custom map settings – AR spawns were doubled, there were 50% more ammunition spawns, the red zone (bombs) was turned off and players were unable to use their own clothes skins combinations to prevent any OP camo setups. The location of the server for the event was in Central United States, with the familiar caster duo Travis and Alex from Curse.

Over the span of 3 days, there were a total of 23 games played. First two days were dedicated for qualifiers, with groups A, B and C scheduled for October 13th. Groups D, E and F took place the following day, October 14th. Each group played a total of 3 games, with points awarded after each one according to the following scheme:

The 6 best teams from every group got to advance to the finals on October 15th. There were 5 total games played, with the point structure and kill bonuses remaining the same as in Qualifiers.

Overall, the five best teams were awarded the Exclusive Curse Trials prize crates and Curse Trials apparel, sponsored by none other than Alienware. The top team also received a hand-crafted Curse Trials Trophy on top of pride, honor and undisputed bragging rights for winning the tournament.

If you’ve been following the PUBG competitive scene lately, you’ll recognize lots of familiar names on these lists. For such a young game, the interest in these competitive events is at an all time high.

The Thrilling Finals

PUBG and battle royale as a genre overall definitely feature a certain level of luck, but this is offset by bigger number of games. With 5 games in total, all the 36 qualified teams had ample opportunities to showcase their skills.

The top 5 duos all definitely deserved the spots and the prizes:

You’ll probably recognize EnergeticTurtle and Aitzy as members of Team Method, who recently also participated in Uproar’s “The Golden Chicken” invitational tournament and won 2 out of 3 games. There’s also a Tempo Storm duo Sambty & YaBoiDre on the 4th spot.

The main topic after the finals has definitely been the point differential between the first two teams. With 2 measly points more, which is what one kill was worth, Moody and Frolicer managed to snatch a first place above Zelendra and St8Ty. With close to 400 points total, such a small difference is almost unbelievable!
