Stay Slick with Free and Premium Fortnite Battle Royale Skins

Weeeelcome back everyone! Today I’ve got a special treat for you. Instead of talking about Rocket League, I’m instead going to take you down a different route with another fantastic video game—Fortnite Battle Royale. In case you’ve never heard of it and you’re here because a friend of yours told you that you need to get it but you aren’t so sure, so you do some snooping to find out if it’s worth it, Fortnite Battle Royale is a third person shooter that incorporates elimination rounds with building and teamwork. It’s a fantastic game (and free, woo hoo!) that took the gaming industry by storm. Because of that, today, I’m going to tell you about the most important part of it. Guns? Nah. Shield? Nah. I’m gonna tell you how to get skins. I’m going to teach you how to look good. For this Fortnite Battle Royale Skins Guide, I’m gonna take you through skins and teach you how to win—or lose—with tremendous style.

The Basics

You don’t know anything about skins. You’ve never heard anything about them, but you’re excited to find out what they are. You’re an experienced gamer that knows a lot about skins but wants to know more. You haven’t played in a while and you want a refresher. Never to fear! Whatever your reason for reading this, I got you covered.

Skins are just another word for characters in this game. Honestly. The characters don’t change anything. None of them give anyone a competitive advantage. They are purely cosmetic, which I tip my hat to Fortnite for doing that. There’s nothing worse than being able to buy firepower. They just look different, and I’ve figured out from my playing that everyone has different tastes. You might like a skin that someone else thinks is ridiculous. Rock it! You do you.

Free Skins

There are a number of skins, too many for me to list here, but basically, there are two categories—free and premium (paid). By and large, the premium skins outnumber the free ones. Unfortunately for people who aren’t interested in buying anything, they’re also regarded as less cool looking by a lot of people, but then again, like I said earlier—preference.

The most obvious example of a free skin is the ones that you get default when opening the game. They’ll switch up randomly with games and you have no control over them. Playing with them doesn’t necessarily mean much. The obvious conclusion is that the more devoted and therefore better players only use premium skins. Not so! I’ve been absolutely mauled by people in the regular skins.

Even beyond the very basic “here are your thanks for opening the game” skins, there are others that can be claimed through a variety of ways. For example, take the Twitch Prime Skins, which are Havoc and Sub Commander. If you have Twitch Prime, enter your information and you’ll get these skins for free. It looks like a basic military black ops operative, and if I do say so myself, it looks legit.

If you’re on PlayStation and have PlayStation Plus, you can get the PlayStation Plus skin, a colorful version of the regular skin. If you don’t, well, rough.

That covers most of the free skins as of right now, but there are more popping up all the time. Keep your eyes peeled and snag the new ones whenever they show up.

Premium Skins

There are several ways to get Premium Skins. Some skins can only be bought through the in-game currency known as “V-Bucks,” such as the awesome “Rex” skin that makes you appear to be wearing a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex costume. There’s not a lot funnier than seeing someone wearing it come springing out of a base like a freakin’ dinosaur and maul someone. If I get killed by someone wearing it, I’m not even mad. I’m just wildly entertained. The skins in this category have a set time limit before they vanish—generally a day. Rex will be unavailable tomorrow, probably, unless they bring him back. If you want to pay for these skins, ya better snag ‘em while they’re available! They show up all the time and vanish before you even notice.

The other way to get Premium skins is through the Battle Pass, where basically you pay about ten dollars and get a series of achievements that can be unlocked. Each achievement brings you cool loot, from emotes to skins to V-Bucks to use in the store. By far, this is the easiest way to get skins. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I’ll list a couple of the names to get your interest flowing—Dark Voyager. Elite Agent. Rust Lord. Mission Specialist. I mean, c’mon! With names like these, they have to be cool. There’s a style for everyone. If you play enough, you’ll work your way through the achievements and get each skin.

Of course, the last skin deserves special recognition, not only for its awesome name (Reaper) but for what it means. This thing looks exactly like John Wick. He’s a tall, bearded man with a black suit, black tie, and black everything. He looks mean and gnarly, and he’s also the final thing to unlock in the Battle Pas. It takes about seventy-three years to get there. You have to be truly devoted to getting it, and if you have it, there’s a general sense of awe regarding your status because it means you have enormous amounts of time to spend playing Fortnite. If you see a Reaper, I would strongly advice to stay away from him. They’re generally solid players.

Summary

That’s it, gang! I don’t have much else to share with you. If you’ve read any other articles, most of them bash some of the skins and hold the others on a pedestal. Nah, not me. I realize that the point of the game is to enjoy yourself, not to try to fit in with everyone else. Use whatever skin you want! In the end, when you win, you’re gonna feel pretty goofy with everyone watching you in a skin you don’t like.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: get out there and have some fun!
