Heizou was born in a remote village in Inazuma in Genshin Impact, and players are naturally curious about how he got his vision. His father is a famed martial artist, and he is the heir. He doesn’t want anything to do with it like any other child.

The stalemate continued until he met a merchant’s son at a festival. His friend would bring him various knickknacks every time they met up. Baubles from Fontaine, exciting books from Sumeru, these trinkets brightened up Heizou’s mundane life.

Yet, something keeps nagging at him. Though his friend is a merchant’s son, he seemed to wear nothing but rags. Wanting to know the truth, Heizou confronted him. He confessed that he was a thief and that all the trinkets he had given were stolen from a local merchant guild. Going one step further, he even said he approached the budding detective to steal from him that day they met.

Betrayed, Heizou furiously shouted that they weren’t friends anymore and stomped back home. He found the ‘gifts’ and threw them all out save for a pebble they picked up from the river. It was the only thing that wasn’t stolen goods, but he still tried to throw it away. It bounced on his window and rolled under his bed.

He sulked, wanting to forget everything, though life teaches us that the more we want to forget, the more we remember it. Still, time passed, and that same festival came around again. Heizou went, bringing along the pebble he thought he threw away. Wanting to find an answer to his burning questions, he found his friend lying in a growing pool of blood instead.

Amidst the screams, he went to his friend, dropping the pebble he held. The former thief(?) had a violent encounter with a bandit who wanted to steal his Mora purse and, in a panic, got stabbed in the chest. On seeing the ‘treasure,’ he showed his Mora purse, empty of the currency but containing the pebble he picked up on the same day.

With the last of his strength, the friend smiled at Heizou, holding out his own’ treasure.’

Unconsciously, Heizou returned home and discovered where to direct his rage and guilt. A month later, he left his home, only leaving a note saying he had found his enemy and would wage war against it. Among the belongings he brought, one is a green stone. It did not symbolize friendship, but one representing his resolve, his Anemo Vision.

The gods of Celestia must love giving people with tragic backstories Anemo Visions. That’s likely why this pattern emerged, even though the Archon’s ideal is freedom. Then again, that could encompass many other aspects, including death and loss.

Continue enjoying Genshin Impact, and have fun with Heizou!
