Yae Miko Build Guide and Lore (Backstory)

Yae Miko

Name: Yae Miko

Vision: Electro

Birthday: June 27

Constellation: Divina Vulpes

Titles: Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine, Astute Amusement

Yae Miko is one of the most-awaited characters in Genshin Impact. Her relationship with the Raiden Shogun, or rather Raiden Ei, her mysterious and wily demeanor, and her outstanding kit all contributed. To know how to build her, you must first understand her abilities.

Her Elemental Skill, Yakan Evocation: Sesshou Sakura, makes her dash away a short distance. At her landing point, she leaves a Sesshou Sakura. The latter deals Electro DMG to enemies within its range. Three may exist simultaneously on the field, a limitation shared among co-op members.

Her Burst, Great Secret Art: Tenko Kenshin, summons a massive bolt of lightning on an area in front of her. If Sesshou Sakura is on the field, more bolts will be invoked (one bolt per instance, up to three bolts).

This lets Yae Miko excel in the sub-DPS role. Leave her Sesshou Sakura, and then use her Burst when it’s active. Her regular attacks have low multipliers, so being an active DPS can be tricky. Her Burst also requires 90 energy, a trait only shared by Raiden Shogun. That means she’ll need a good Electro battery or high Energy Recharge to use her Burst reliably.

Sub-DPS

If you want to maximize her damage output, you can use a 4-set Thundering Fury. Otherwise, a combination of that and any ATK +18% set will do. The latter is for a general boost, while the former increases damage through reactions. There’s also a cooldown reduction effect that only activates when she’s on the field. She doesn’t need it as her cooldown is short enough for a quick rotation.

The Emblem of Severed Fate set is also an option. It will solve her Energy Recharge problem and boost her damage as well. Some might prefer this to Thundering Fury or combine those two sets.

Main Stat: ATK%/Energy Recharge, Electro DMG Bonus, Crit Rate/DMG

Substats: Crit DMG/Rate, Energy Recharge, ATK, Elemental Mastery

Support-Oriented

Yae Miko can support the party with either the Tenacity of the Millileth or Noblesse Oblige sets. Since you’ll want her Sesshou Sakura on the field as much as possible, the Millileth set is an excellent way to buff the party. The only problem is that the HP boost isn’t too useful for her.

Noblesse seems a better fit, as you want her Burst to have high damage, and the ATK boost is helpful. However, this needs a steady supply of energy, as mentioned above. You’ll rely more on her Q than her E with this build.

Main Stat: Energy Recharge/ATK%, Electro DMG Bonus, Crit Rate/DMG

Substats: Crit DMG/Rate, ATK, Energy Recharge

Weapons

Her signature catalyst is Kagura’s Verity. Alternatives include:

  • Skyward Atlas
  • The Widsith
  • Solar Pearl
  • Blackcliff Agate
  • Hakushin Ring

The event catalyst Oathsworn Eye is also an option, but the time has passed to get it. More options would come as the game progresses and more weapons are added.

A Short Backstory for Yae Miko

She is a kitsune yokai and has personally known the past and current Electro Archon. She was an apprentice of the Kitsune Saiguu who gave her life to purify Narukami Island of corruption. As such, she has seen many things in her long life and seeks to find the most amusing things to ease her boredom.

As her personal quest would attest, Yae Miko is likely to be the last yokai of Inazuma. Its ending sees her lay to rest her brethren, leaving her the sole living one. She started the Yae Publishing House as a way to collect interesting stories, a nod to the gatherings she attended in the past. Of course, it is a pale imitation, but she doesn’t let that stop her.

She oversees rituals and other spiritual matters as the Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine. However, in the case of those long-winded rituals or festivals, she finds a way to escape and walk the streets of Inazuma City. Despite her reputation as a respected figure, Yae Miko is a mischievous kitsune.

She usually causes a bit of trouble for the people around her during these times. Nothing too malicious, just a few harmless pranks. Her targets would feel embarrassed at most, most notably how she would treat Gorou. She also does help other people if she feels like it. One example is helping the Yashiro Commissioner during that fiasco with the Raiden Gokaden.
