The Red Fox and the Black Cat are two siblings that you will eventually encounter in Krat. They can be allies or enemies, depending on the choices you make in the game. The main factor in determining your overall ending with them is whether you accept or reject the Red Fox’s offer. Which of the two options should you choose?

Who are the Red Fox and Black Cat?

Red Fox and Black Cat are two characters featured in Lies of P. They share a unique bond as siblings and belong to a faction known as Stalkers, a group dedicated to hunting down and eliminating P. These two are sources of some interesting interactions.

Red Fox is an amicable NPC who plays various roles within the game’s questlines. Meanwhile, Black Cat tends to be a more affable NPC. However, players will have the option to engage in a battle against them as a mini-bosses as they progress through the game. The Fox possesses considerable combat skills and employs a diverse range of weapons and abilities, including a grappling hook and a deadly poison mist. The Cat excels in both close-range and long-range combat.

Red Fox and Black Cat’s relationship is complex, characterized by both love and conflict. They share a deep sibling bond, but their differing personalities and objectives lead to tension. Red Fox is known for her ruthless determination, while Black Cat leans towards compassion and hesitates when it comes to taking lives.

What is Red Fox’s Request?

You are given the option to help out on a request when you meet the enigmatic Red Fox and Black Cat in the Malum District. The decision to accept or refuse Red Fox’s offer can significantly impact your gameplay and the game’s narrative. There are two outcomes depending on your decisions.

Accepting Red Fox’s Offer

By accepting Red Fox’s request, you align yourself with these characters and become their ally. Red Fox and Black Cat will accompany you through the level and assist you in battling the Black Bandit Brotherhood. This choice sets you on a path to befriend Red Fox and Black Cat.

By cooperating and maintaining a positive relationship with them, you can potentially avoid fighting them near the end of the game. If they consider you a friend, they may request items from you instead of engaging in combat. Red Fox and Black Cat can provide valuable support in battles, making encounters less challenging. Their presence can be especially helpful if you’re facing tough enemies or bosses.

Refusing Red Fox’s Offer

If you choose to decline Red Fox’s offer, the interaction ends, and you continue your journey independently. This action will make them more antagonistic towards you and diverges from their questline, leading to alternative narrative outcomes.

Once you refuse Red Fox’s request to help them attack the Black Bandit Brotherhood, the interaction ends abruptly. Red Fox and Black Cat will not join you on your journey, and you’ll continue through the level without their assistance. From then on, they’ll remember your refusal throughout the game.

This decision may influence their attitudes and behaviors in subsequent encounters. They may view you differently due to your choice to reject their offer. When you encounter Red Fox and Black Cat again close to the end of the game, they will pose as boss battles. These fights can be challenging but are manageable if you’ve progressed through the game successfully.

Should You Accept or Reject the Offer?

The only thing that you are mainly considering whether to accept or reject is if you want to fight the siblings or not. In general, accepting the request is the best option if you want a more feel-good ending. Helping out the siblings prevents you from being forced to kill them in the end. You skip their boss fights altogether, and they give you rewards after you give them Golden Coin Fruit.

However, declining is still a valid option if you want to have a more challenging encounter. You will be facing them separately if you choose to be antagonistic against them. The boss fights can be challenging.  Fortunately, you are guaranteed to win against them as long as your character’s been upgraded fully.

What are the Rewards for Accepting or Rejecting Red Fox’s Request

The overall rewards for accepting or rejecting the request are the same, which you can get after finishing the Red Fox Black Cat questline. They will still give you the Red Fox Hat and the Black Cat Mask, regardless of the choice you make. These are just cosmetic items that do not provide any additional stats.

Completing the Red Fox Questline After Accepting the Request

The actual questline will start in Chapter 5, where the request will be placed. New encounters will occur in Chapters 7 and 11, wherein your interactions will differ depending on your choices. Here is how you complete the whole questline if you accept the Red Fox Request:

Encounter in the Malum District (Chapter 5)

• Upon arriving in the Malum District from the Path of the Pilgrim in Area V, you’ll encounter Red Fox and Black Cat near the first stargazer.
• Red Fox will request your assistance in raiding the Black Rabbit Brotherhood. You have the option to accept or refuse this offer.
• If you accept, Red Fox and Black Cat become your temporary allies. They will assist you in combat as you progress toward the Black Rabbit hideout building.
• While escorting you, they may use somewhat disparaging language, referring to you as their “new dumbass.” When you reach the hideout, they’ll wait outside while you clear out the enemies.
• After completing the task, you can return to them for additional dialogue before they eventually disappear.
• If you refuse, this encounter will not occur, and you’ll continue through the level without their assistance. Your decision will have consequences later in the game.

Meeting at the Grand Exhibition (Chapter 7)

• In Area VII, the Grand Exhibition, you’ll have another encounter with Red Fox and Black Cat, near the monorail at the area’s end.
• During this interaction, they reveal more about themselves. Black Cat, in particular, will request a Gold Coin Fruit from you.
• If you choose to give him the fruit, he’ll express gratitude and suggest that you’d make good friends. Red Fox will thank you and reward you with the Quixotic vinyl record and the Beg gesture.
• If you don’t have the fruit or choose not to give it to him, they’ll plead for it, and you’ll still have the option to provide one. However, if you progress to the next area without giving them the fruit, Red Fox and Black Cat will move on, considering your refusal.
• To maintain a positive relationship with them but lack a Gold Coin Fruit, it’s advisable to return to the Gold Coin Tree in Hotel Krat to acquire one before continuing.

Encounter in Arche Abbey Outer Wall (Chapter 11)

• Upon reaching Area XI and progressing to Arche Abbey, you’ll separately encounter both Black Cat and Red Fox.
• If you did not help them earlier, both characters will become boss fights, and you’ll need to defeat them to continue.
• However, if you assisted them in the Malum District and provided Black Cat with a Gold Coin Fruit in the Grand Exhibition, you can avoid these boss fights.
• Black Cat, if he considers you a friend, will ask for another Gold Coin Fruit instead of fighting you. Giving him the fruit allows you to avoid his boss battle and earn the Black Cat Mask as a reward.
• Shortly after, you’ll meet Red Fox again. If she also considers you a friend and you spared Black Cat, she’ll request one more Gold Coin Fruit and present you with the Red Fox Mask.
