Luna Dota 2 Build 2023

With over 120 heroes and almost 200 items, trying out a new hero and figuring out a viable build for them can be a daunting task in DOTA 2. Fortunately, to help you out, we have prepared a detailed build guide for Luna DOTA 2 to help you dominate your games.

How Should You Play Luna in DOTA 2

Luna is an offensive hero known to outpace other Carry heroes in terms of her ability to flash farm and demolish enemy buildings with her “Moon Glaives” passive ability.

Being purely an aggressive hero, Luna is built as a Hard Carry whose job is to close out games and get the bulk of the kills with their item build. On Luna, you’ll typically buy items such as Manta Style, Mask of Madness, and Butterfly, to name a few, to carry the games you play.

Strengths Of Luna

  • Hits multiple targets at once, which is great for flash farming
  • Good night vision due to her passive ability
  • Can push down towers relatively quickly
  • Great magic damage that can tilt the tide of a team fight

Weaknesses Of Luna

  • Very item dependent
  • Short attack range can easily put her in danger
  • No escape mechanism to evade the enemy’s onslaught
  • No ability that can lock down high mobility heroes

Best Build For Playing Luna As Carry

Due to her purely aggressive kit, you’ll want to build Luna as a hero that can carry your team to victory. Therefore, you’ll be the one that will soak up the farm from all over the map and quickly build the items you’ll need to demolish the enemy heroes and their defense to end the game.

Laning Phase (0 – 10 minutes)

The laning phase is the time of the game where you’ll mostly look to secure as much gold and XP as you can before you head to the jungle to accelerate your farming speed. Following are the starting items you should go for at the start of the round to make sure you survive the laning stage:

Starting Items
2 x Tango3 x Iron Branches1 x Quelling Blade
1 x Slippers of Agility

As you trade blows with the enemy heroes in your lane, the Tangos, and Iron Branches will provide you HP regeneration to sustain your health. You can ship out additional regeneration such as Salves or Mangos to help you keep your health and mana up.

On the other hand, Quelling Blade and Slippers of Agility will equip you with some damage and stats to enable you to take last hits on creeps more easily and stack up more denies on the enemy.

Early Game (10 – 20 minutes)

By the end of the 10-minute mark, most heroes will be looking to move across the map looking to push down towers and secure map control. However, you, as a Luna, should move to the jungle and focus on accelerating your farm and building the items you need to end the game. Here are the standard items all Luna players should build as quickly as possible in the early game:

Early Game Items (Required, In Order)
Power ThreadsMask of MadnessDragon LanceYasha

Getting Power Threads early will allow you to move around between jungle camps much more quickly to farm gold more effectively. Their stats, such as attack speed and strength, will certainly boost your farming speed.

On the other hand, Mask of Madness is the steroid Luna needs to farm at a phenomenal rate. Mask of Madness will not only enable you to clear through camps quickly but will also prove to be quite useful in pushing towers, due to the increase in attack speed it gives when the item is active.

Moreover, items like Dragon Lance and Yasha are known to be great cost-effective items that provide a considerable boost to Luna’s stats, which is great for both fighting and farming. Not just that, both Yasha and Dragon Lance can build into other items that you can buy on Luna. Dragon Lance also has the added bonus of providing you with additional attack range which luna greatly lacks.

Core Items

After the 20-minute mark, you should be looking to build the following core items as soon as possible to win the game:

Core Items (Required, In Order)
Manta StyleBlack King BarDaedalus
SatanicAghanim Shard

Manta Style is a core item on Luna in most games as it greatly contributes to her health, damage and movement speed stats. Plus, since Luna’s illusions also obtain the effects of her passive ability, “Moon Glaives” Manta Style is a great item for pushing and increasing her damage output in team fights. Manta can also come in handy when you want to dispel enemy silences and roots.

Black King Bar(BKB) is another must-have item for Luna in all games due to its active ability that provides the hero Magic Immunity, improving her survivability against spells, and enemy disables.

On the other hand, Daedalus is a great item for tremendously boosting Luna’s damage and her ability to melt enemy heroes. Make sure to use it wisely against Blade Mail users or else you will kill yourself.

Satanic is another useful item that gives luna much needed survivability as it allows her to heal through immense damage thrown at her in team fights. If you have the money, you can even opt to buy an Aghanim Shard as it increases Luna’s attack damage whenever you hit an enemy with your “Lucent Beam” spell.

Situational Items

Here are some items you can consider picking up if the situation of the game demands it:

Situational Items
Monkey King BarButterflyEye of Skadi
Linken’s SphereHurricane Pike

Monkey Kind Bar(MKB) and Butterfly are great alternatives for damage items instead of getting Daedalus. MKB particularly is useful if there is a hero in the enemy hero that has high “Evasion” such as Phantom Assasin as you need an MKB to be able to hit her at all. With that said, if you looking for higher attack speed or want to increase your “Evasion” you can opt for a butterfly.

Likewise, Eye of Skadi, Linken’s Sphere, and Hurricane Pike are other survivability items that you can pick instead of a Satanic. Eye of Skadi provides a great boost to your stats and it also allows you to slow the movement speed of enemy heroes, allowing you to keep enemies within your attack range. This slow is especially very handy if you lack lockdown or stuns in your team.

Moreover, Linken’s Sphere is another item that provides a decent boost to your stats and it also blocks single-target spells, especially stuns, which increases your survivability. On the other hand, you can choose to upgrade your Dragon Lance and build it into a Hurricane Pike to provide you with an escape and chasing tool.
