How to Get 2FA in Fortnite

Fortnite 2FA

Let me throw you a scenario here: you’re happily playing a game of Fortnite, and everything is going well. You’re tearing it up, killing enemies left and right, and making off like a mad lad. But then, one of the people you kill gets mad at you, through a series of schemes, end up successfully hacking you. Once inside, they wreak havoc on you before you can even figure out what happened. Don’t let that happen! Fortnite has instituted something called Fortnite 2FA, aka Fortnite Two Factor Authentication, which is a big deal to prevent such occurrences. I’ll be taking you through everything you need to know about it, how to turn it on, and why you need to care in this How to Get 2FA in Fortnite Guide.

What is Fortnite 2FA?

Let’s start with the basics here. Fortnite 2FA is Fortnite Two Factor Authentication, a system designed to keep your account much more secure. You know how you can have Gmail or something, and when you log into a new system, it panics and lets you know about it? That’s similar to this. Here’s how it works!

You log into your Xbox, Playstation, or PC. You play all the time on the system, and you have no problems. You don’t have to do anything special to continue playing. But then, you decide to play at a buddy’s house or on a different system, which is when the Two Factor Authentication kicks in. It notices that your account is on a different system, and it requires that you sign in using a second way to make sure that it’s you. You can do this using the Authenticator App or email authentication.

Is Two-Factor Authentication Mandated?

Maybe none of this is making an impression on you, and you don’t want to mess with it. Never fear! Here’s the good news: Two Factor Authentication is not mandated (though certain features, like gifting, require it). If you want it, great! You can turn it on, and Fortnite even provides a few goodies for you to enjoy as a reward (I’ll get into that in a second). If you don’t want it, no worries! You just don’t turn it on, and you don’t have to use it.

How Do I Enable Two-Factor Authentication?

To enable Two Factor Authentication, you will need to head over to Fortnite.com/2FA. When you get there, you’ll need to log into your Epic Games account, make your way to the option for changing your password, and see the last part: the option to enable one of the two ways (Email 2FA or authentication app 2FA).

What next? Just follow the onscreen instructions and finish the process. It’s that easy, and, as I’ll tell you in a second, it comes with goodies!

Now, What About Those Goodies?

The Boogie Down is a cool emote that some of you may recognize because it has been available for months. So, you may have encountered it in your travels or, at the very least, chanced upon it before. Want it? You could theoretically buy it, or Option 2 – the free option – is just to enable Two Factor Authentication, login, and the Boogie Down Emote will be waiting for you. You don’t have to do anything in particular. It should be sitting there waiting the next time you fire up the game.

Is My Account Secure With Two Factor Authentication?

This is a tricky question, but basically, yes. You should be able to relax knowing that your account is safe from hackers. Here’s the reason: even if a hacker somehow gets your information and gets access to your password, they won’t be able to do anything because you made it nearly impossible for them.

As anyone who plays already knows, not every gamer will be hacked in their life simply because it takes a considerable amount of effort, and someone has to want to do it. But if you’re one of the unlucky few, this has your back and keeps your account protected from any never-do-wells!

Why Should You Care?

You might hear that and wonder why in the blue blazes you might be interested at all. Why would you care? It’s a valid question. This might sound like a hassle for some of you because you have to go through an unnecessary precaution just to play. Let me tell you this: You should care because it helps keep you safe.

Fortnite surged in popularity way faster than anyone could have anticipated, and now, the security measures are catching up with the times. That, right there, is the very reason you should care. Though I suppose it could take a little more time when you’re first logging in, it’s there to help you and make sure would-be hackers won’t get access to your account.

Be A Worry-Free Fortnite Player

Enabling Two Factor Authentication in Fortnite will turn your account into a veritable bank vault. Without having access to your email or app, nefarious individuals won’t be able to do anything. It’s safe, easy, and even comes with the Boogie Down Emote as a bonus! I’d recommend using it because the benefits certainly outweigh the minor amount of time it’ll take away, but if you don’t want to, no worries; it isn’t mandatory. Until next time, get out there and have some fun!
