How to Unlock World Quests in BfA for WoW Plus More

By | April 9th, 2019 | Categories: World of Warcraft

Quests, one thing that MMORPGs can’t do without and World of Warcraft is no exception. Ever since the original questing experience that vanilla offered, Blizzard has constantly strived to make quests more appealing and less monotone. And with the Battle for Azeroth expansion, they’ve raised the bar even higher by improving on an existing quest type. That’s right, we’re talking about How to Unlock World Quests in BfA!

Sure, world quests have now been around for a few years so they’re not an entirely new concept. But it’s what Blizzard did with them and more specifically how they integrated this questing variation into the two new zones. As a result, players have access to countless world quests across both Kul Tiras and Zandalar.

What is a World Quest in WoW?

World quests were initially added to the game during Legion and they were created as an organic upgrade over daily quests. And since daily quests have been around since early TBC it was only logical for a new questing concept to appear sooner or later. But going back to world quests, they rely on a rotation system in the zones where they are available. This means that these quests appear during different times in certain zones.

Another key aspect of world quests is the variety that they offer in terms of diverse quest objectives. Players have always complained about the repetitive and monotone nature of quests, so Blizzard is trying to amend that with the help of world quests. There are also several distinctive types of world quests, most notably:

  • World boss
  • Dungeon or raid
  • PvP-oriented objective
  • Pet battle
  • Rare elite or elite mobs

But while players within the same area have access to the same world quests, some will be available only to players with professions. Alternatively, as you make progress on certain quests in a zone you might find out that new ones pop up, which are only visible to you. On a side note, it’s worth mentioning that patch 8.1.0 of BfA added a few changes to world quests, such as making most of them impossible to complete in raid groups.

How do I unlock World Quests?

First, you need to get to level 120, then you need to reach Friendly reputation with the 3 main factions in Kul Tiras or Zandalar (depending on whether you’re Alliance or Horde) and finally, you have to unlock the 3 footholds by completing the War Campaign for your particular faction (Ally or Horde).

And since the second step regarding getting to Friendly with 3 factions might puzzle you, here’s a clarification:

  • Alliance players have to complete the Uniting Kul Tiras quest that requires you to hit Friendly with 3 factions in Kul Tiras – Proudmoore Admiralty, Storm’s Wake and Order of Embers. To start the quest you need to speak to Halford Wyrmbane, located in the capital of Boralus (Tiragarde Sound) with exact coords: 69.4, 27.
  • Horde players will need to do a similar thing by completing Uniting Zandalar that calls you to reach a Friendly rep with the following 3 factions in Zandalar – Zandalari Empire, Talanji’s Expedition and Voldunai. Starting this quest requires you to speak to Nathanos Blightcaller who can be found in Zuldazar (Zandalar) – exact coords: 58.4, 62.6.

What happens after I unlock World Quests?

Once you’ve successfully unlocked world quests, they will start appearing across every zone in both Kul Tiras and Zandalar, from Stormsong Valley to Vol’dun. You’ll also receive the Flight Master’s Whistle item that essentially takes you to the nearest flight path master. And if you already have one from unlocking world quests in Legion, the whistle will simply become usable in the two new BfA continents once you unlock world quests in the new expansion.

You also have to keep in mind that unlike dailies, world quests don’t have a reset timer. And they have various durations as harder quests have longer durations. On top of that, although you’re not limited to the number of world quests you can do in a single day, there’s no guarantee that new quests will appear.

How do I get started?

All that you need to do is travel to a certain zone (with world quests currently active) and a given quest will automatically appear in a similar fashion to how bonus objectives worked in WoD. By hovering your mouse over a particular flightmaster’s map will open a tooltip that shows you how many quests are active in a given area. You world map will also show you what kind of world quests are available in each area.

Is the unlock account wide for BfA World Quests on Alts?

Not really as you’ll have to complete the War Campaign (all 3 footholds) on each character (alt). Simply having the Flight Master’s Whistle on your main doesn’t mean that world quests are automatically unlocked for all your other characters. You still must find the 3 flight points either on Kul Tiras or Zandalar (depending on your faction) by completing the War Campaign.

However, while your alts will still need to unlock the 3 footholds courtest of the War Campaign, they won’t have to reach Friendly reputation with the related factions. Or in other words, your alts will simply have to finish the War Campaign to unlock world quests for them, that’s all.

Conclusion

It’s crystal clear that world quests are one of the highlights of WoW’s 7th expansion titled Battle for Azeroth. Unlocking them is a simple 3-step process that shouldn’t take an awful lot of time and once that’s taken care of you can enjoy the huge variety they offer. Not only are there hundreds of them, but they also appear at different times in different places for maximum diversity.
