WoW Forums: Are They Absolutely Pointless or Not?

By | November 29th, 2017 | Categories: World of Warcraft

I vividly remember what WoW Forums used to be like back in 2005 when the game was still fresh. Players were flocking there, sharing information about quests, loot, raid tactics and what not.

There was a strong sense of community back then, which many people feel has been lost in recent times. But even then people argued if forums are pointless and just a waste of time.

With the introduction of cross-realm dungeon runs, PvP and a general blurring the lines between different realms for instance somehow resculptured the WoW community for the most part.

But nonetheless, World of Warcraft still has active forums with truckloads of new topics being created every single day. And trust me – being active in the community is far from pointless, unless you spend your time being toxic and writing non-contributing posts.

Firstly though, let’s look at some of the most popular sections of the official WoW forums.

The official World of Warcraft forums and the most prominent sections

Trust me, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of different sections in the official community but you don’t have to worry because I’ll make it easy for you.

Let’s have a look at the mighty general forums now because if you can’t find a dedicated forum that fits your questions or interests, you always end up posting into or just browsing the general forums.

WoW general forums – everything and everyone

You can access this section by clicking – here. Now, this place is full of all kinds of stuff, trust me. It’s literally that segment of the official forums, where you can find info about everything and everyone related to Blizzard’s beloved MMORPG.

Apart from that, you can find forum games in the General part of the forums as well as obscure and cool threads like this one – basically, it’s a way for people to forge in-game friendships.

So, to wrap it up, if you want to talk about general WoW-related topics, simply hop on the General section of the forums and you’re set.

Hey, what about WoW arena forums though?

I was certain that you were going to ask. And that’s why I have an answer for that as well! Click here in order to check the official arena forums.

Now, since we’re approaching Legion PvP season 6, it’s logical that we have to check the arena forums more often, right?

Well, that depends on you, but the matter of fact is that along with the Battlegrounds forum section, these are the two places where you can discuss PvP freely with fellow players.

Generally speaking, the Arena forum section is full of “nerf this” and “nerf that” threads along with more practical ones like “how to beat down insane melee damage?” No matter which one you choose to have a look at, you won’t be disappointed – at least it’s entertaining to read most of the posts.

And now, we absolutely have to cover a sought-after question:

Which are the best wow forums?

Yes, the never-ending battle between official forums and non-official powerhouses like MMO Champion’s World of Warcraft section. But relax, I’m not going to choose sides – I’ll just present you with the two best alternative options.

Personally, I’ll always favor the official Blizzard World of Warcraft forums, because they are the most populated ones, with the best support and moderation.

Anyway, without further ado, these are the top unofficial WoW forums:

1. MMO-Champion

http://www.mmo-champion.com/forums/245-World-of-Warcraft

Sure, MMO-Champion has other forum parts about Guild Wars 2, Dota 2, LoL and so on, but undoubtedly, the largest portion of their forums is dedicated to… you guessed it – World of Warcraft.

This forum is closest to the Blizz one in terms of the sheer number of sub-forums. In particular, MMO-Champion has a separate sub-section about each and every class in the game, plus a plethora of other official-like parts such as:

  • General discussions
  • A separate Battle for Azeroth portion of the forums
  • Another one for Classic WoW
  • Raids & dungeons
  • Professions
  • PvP
  • Achievements, pet battles and transmogrification
  • Interface and macros
  • Lore
  • Role Playing

Seriously, this looks very Blizz-like to me. So in essence, if you want to venture into other, non-official forums, your best bet is, without a shadow of a doubt – MMO-Champion.

2. Wowhead forums

http://www.wowhead.com/forums

Wowhead needs no introduction, really. I still remember it being the place-to-go for finding information related to those sometimes very dodgy vanilla WoW quests. The sheer volume of their database you can find on this site is second to none.

And as far as their forum section goes, it’s actually pretty good. While it might not have the depth of MMO-Champion, it sure offers a lot of cool sub-sections that include the following:

  • WoW general
  • Lore & roleplaying
  • Guild recruitment
  • Front page news
  • WoW help
  • UI & macros
  • Wowhead feedback
  • Classes
  • Dungeons & raids
  • PvP
  • Professions
  • Transmogrification
  • Battle pets
  • Off-topic
  • Forum games

The news section is perhaps the coolest thing from that pack, along with the guild recruitment one. Overall, Wowhead comes at a close second – an awesome unofficial WoW forum, no two ways about it.

Conclusion

Whether you’re a fan of WoW forums or not, you can’t deny their place in the World of Warcraft universe. Even if you have lots of free time on your hands, you can just join one of those forum games and enjoy yourself.

Now, before you start a new thread on the official forums or MMO-Champion, for example, leave us a comment below and tell us what you favorite WoW forum is!

My favorite forum was and is still the “class related” forums. If you like theory crafting and want to pursue excellence in playing your class that’s the place to be !
