Top Guilds in WoW: Do They Even Exist?

By | January 24th, 2018 | Categories: World of Warcraft

When it comes to the Top Guilds in WoW, the first thing that comes to mind is undoubtedly a particular word – Method. This very word strikes terror into the hearts (as if they have hearts) of all end-game bosses in the game.

But it’s not just Method, hardcore World of Warcraft guilds have been around for over a decade already. Great guilds existed even back in the days when we had to wait until level 40 for a mount and when a mob could actually kill you (yes, I’m referring to vanilla).

Today, we have the privilege to take a peek at the best WoW guilds in the globe, who they are and how you can actually find them. First things first, let’s see what the definition of a “top guild” is.

What is Considered a “Top” Guild in World of Warcraft?

Essentially, these are the so-called “hardcore” guilds. They consist of players who are highly dedicated to their characters and their roles in the guild, with the highest priority unarguably being clearing out new end-game content as fast as possible (or before other guilds).

The guild that gets the world, realm or region first (or even all of them at once) will clearly be crowned as currently the best guild in the whole world. The emphasis should be on “currently” because as Blizzard continues to add new content the competition among different guilds intensifies beyond any reasonable boundaries.

Being the First Guild on Planet Earth to Kill a Particular Boss is All About Prestige.

Now, being the first guild to kill the final boss of the hardest end-game dungeon is something that not only demands skills and adequate knowledge, but you would need to spend an awful lot of time in preparations and perhaps even more time on the actual boss fights.

Time is the main keyword here because the more time you put into hardcore raiding, the more content your guild will unlock and subsequently you’ll get better gear for your crew.

But apart from gear, what do these people gain by storming through the most challenging dungeon? Well, for the most part – they just do it for the sake of it… ops, glory I meant. If you think that the players at these high-end guilds are being sent fat paychecks for spend 14+ hours per day on WoW, you’re totally wrong.

So, which are the top guilds in World of Warcraft at the moment?

Since there are some debate and even differing data among all the WoW rankings sites, we’ll concentrate on the two best guilds at the moment. Alright, brace yourselves, here they are:

  1. Method (EU, Horde) – Realm: Tarren Mill
Current Antorus, The Burning Throne progress: 11/11 on Mythic difficulty
  2. Экзорсус (EU, Horde) – Realm: Howling Fjord
Current Antorus, The Burning Throne progress: 11/11 on Mythic difficulty

The former is the top guild in the world at the moment. Method is a legend among WoW guilds and has been one for more than a decade now. Their initial raidings success dates from 2007 during The Burning Crusade – that’s how long Method’s been around for!

Экзорсус (or Exorsus) on the other hand is the guild at the top of the food chain in Russian-speaking realms. In fact, they would’ve been at the top on a glocal scale, if it wasn’t for Method. They are on Method’s tail though and the Russian guild is simply waiting for the right moment – who knows, maybe they’ll climb to the first spot at some point in the future.

Now, you’re probably eager to know if there’s a tendency towards Horde guilds occupying the top spots. Spoiler: there is.

Honorable mentions

These are some of the other highly-rated guilds that are among the finest in the whole world, that deserve a special mention:

  • Limit (US, Horde) – Realm: Illidan
    – Arguably the best US guild across the globe
  • ScrubBusters (EU, Alliance) – Realm: The Maelstrom
    – The only Alliance guild in the top 10
  • Memento (EU, Horde) – Realm: Frostwhisper

Nonetheless, these are just a part of the top 10 best guilds right now. That’s why we’ll share the best sites for WoW rankings with you:

The Leading Guild Rankings Websites for WoW

Right now, there are a few sites dedicated to guild rankings and WoW rankings in general that are superior to most of the other ones. And we’re going to list only these, higher-quality sites:

  • WoWProgress – There’s not much to say about the mighty WoWProgress. You have to be living under a rock to not be familiar with this site, which is arguably the top resource for WoW rankings.
  • IO – Presumably not the most well-known place for guild rankings (or rankings in general). However, that doesn’t mean that Raider.IO doesn’t provide relevant and accurate information, plus neat design and additional info.
  • Wowtrack – This site has been around for 8 years or so and it offers a solid guild rankings database. There’s interesting info at your disposal, regarding different patches with all the bosses, statistics, first kills etc.

And while there are other options out there, these three are perhaps the best of the bunch and above all – they give you the most accurate guild rankings data, currently available.

Wrapping it Up

It’s safe to conclude that the best WoW guilds deserve huge amounts of respect for the amount of work and dedication involved in achieving these world first kills. And no, reaching the top is far from being an effortless process – for most of these people, hardcore raiding is their second job.

And after reading this article, you know now where to look when you feel like checking the current standings for the top guilds in the game. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll find yourself leading a Method raid?

Oh boy, Paragon – the Finnish-mega guild that dominated for quite some time.

Sadly they disbanded the guild back in 2016.
