Genshin Impact Amber Build and Lore
Name: Amber
Vision: Pyro
Birthday: 10 August
Constellation: Lepus
Titles: Gliding Champion (of Mondstadt), Outrider of the Knights of Favonius
Amber is the first non-Traveler character the player obtains in Genshin Impact. After the quest’ Winds of the Past,’ she permanently joins the player’s roster. She’s part of the three ‘starter’ characters (along with Lisa and Kaeya) with almost 5-star rarity in the Standard banner. The latter is also how you get their constellation upgrades, other than Paimon’s Bargains.
Explosive Puppet (E) releases Baron Bunny, Amber’s hand-crafted plush toy. You can hold the button to aim where it lands. It dances around, taunting enemies within its range. It explodes when its duration expires or takes too much damage, dealing AoE Pyro DMG.
Her second constellation upgrade lets the player control when that happens by shooting Baron Bunny’s foot. This manual activation deals 200% more damage. Lastly, her C4 upgrade decreases the ability’s cooldown time by 20% and adds an additional charge.
Fiery Rain (Q) marks an area around the enemy, then bombards it with fiery arrows, each dealing AoE Pyro DMG. The skill creates 18 waves and also starts at a certain height. Enemies that can fly above it can avoid getting hit entirely. Aside from that, enemies can wander off the target area, meaning you need crowd control to ensure opponents stay put.
Though she is a DPS at her core, her split scaling isn’t well-received in the community. To be specific, Baron Bunny’s HP scales with Amber’s. If you want to keep the doll from exploding early, you’ll have to get some HP in her. It keeps you from focusing on her damage output, which is the main point of building a character.

Genshin Amber Builds
Burst DPS
The build focuses on increasing the damage of her Burst and using it as much as possible. The E is used to charge it up, but most of Amber’s damage output will come from the other skill. There are a few options for the artifacts.
Possible Sets: Combination of Noblesse Oblige and Crimson Witch of Flames or Emblem of Severed Fate. You can use a 4-set of the latter.
Main Stats: Energy Recharge/ATK%, Pyro DMG Bonus, Crit Rate/DMG
Substats: Crit DMG/Rate, ATK, Energy Recharge
Charged Attack DPS
This is a more on-field Amber, focusing on her Charged Attacks instead of other abilities. With the shift in focus, the artifacts you use will also change. Aimed shots need a bit of prediction of the projectile trajectory for more accurate shots because they don’t go in a straight line. Since you’ll also be going for weak spots if possible, Crit Rate isn’t as crucial as DMG, but it’s nice to also have quite a bit.
Possible Sets: Wanderer’s Troupe, Shimenawa’s Reminiscence Crimson Witch of Flames, a combination of the latter and an ATK+18% set
Main Stats: ATK%, Pyro DMG Bonus, Crit DMG/Rate
Substats: Crit DMG/Rate, ATK, Elemental Mastery
Burst Support
With this build, Amber will support the party instead of dealing damage. You’ll want enough Energy Recharge to keep using her Burst and extend the duration of the buffs. There’s a bit of an issue in energy generation, as her E only produces particles upon explosion. You’ll need a battery to easily keep using her Burst.
Possible Sets: Noblesse Oblige
Main Stats: Energy Recharge/ATK%, Pyro DMG Bonus, Crit Rate/DMG
Substats: Crit DMG/Rate, ATK, ER, EM
Weapons
Amber does not have a signature weapon. Still, here are the most recommended bows for her. Make sure to match it with your chosen build for her!
- Skyward Harp
- Elegy of the End
- Aqua Simulacra
- Polar Star
- Amos’ Bow
- Prototype Crescent

- The Stringless
- Mouun’s Moon

- Windblume Ode
- Hamayumi
- Sharpshooter’s Oath
- Raven Bow
Genshin Impact Amber Lore (Backstory)
Amber is the granddaughter of an old Favonius Outrider. Her grandfather was a traveling Liyue mercenary who got into an accident and was aided by a Favonius Medic. He stayed, too embarrassed to have failed the assignment and had fallen in love with Mondstadt. The older adult was the one to instill the Outriders’ principles and a sense of adventure in her. Unfortunately, this caused him a great deal of trouble, as the young Amber was an unruly child.
Her grandfather was also the one who created the Outrider division in the order of knights. He also trained each member personally. As the founder, he was the glue that held it together. However, a day came when he disappeared without a trace. Cracks formed in the tight-knit platoon, leaving the members adrift. Some had transferred into other units, while the remainder weren’t enough for all the duties of an Outrider.
In the end, it remained as a nominal unit in the order. It was enough that Amber was able to join, and she remains the last Outrider of the Knights of Favonius. She’ll make her grandpa proud and keep his legacy alive. She used to think she’d be able to figure out why her grandfather left if she did.
Amber still doesn’t have an answer, but a hint is given to the player. The bulletin board in Qingce Village mentions an ‘old friend that is returning to Liyue’ implied to be her grandfather. Of course, the reason for his return or exact whereabouts are still unknown, but at least we know that he’s alive and kicking.
According to the game’s official comic, she met Collei at the Ludi Harpastum Festival around a year before the start of the game’s events. The latter was an experiment in a Fatui plot that concerned Mondstadt. It was through her cheer and optimism that Collei was able to choose to break away from the Fatui and return to Sumeru.
She was also similarly welcoming to the Traveler, despite the player being a stranger. Even if it was because the game needed a tutorial, Amber was the one who taught them about Teyvat. Paimon may be the guide, but she doesn’t know about combat or other mechanics.
