The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

To exclude the upcoming Zelda game would be blasphemy. Among the dozen games due for 2023, none is more anticipated than The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Crowned as the best game of all time—at least by IGN’s standards—to say that Breath of the Wild was a success was an understatement. And its follow-up, Tears of the Kingdom, may just become The Game of the Year for many people when it comes out. It’s officially confirmed to launch in May 2023, where we’ll see Link return to Hyrule and dabble into some sky-faring gameplay similar to what we’ve experienced with Skyward Sword.

Nintendo has been cautious not to show too much of what we can expect for Tears of the Kingdom, and rightly so—the sense of wonder and awe was what made Breath of Wild so special when it released, and to be spoiled of that before the game even comes out would squash that “innocence.” I don’t know much about the game aside from what Nintendo has divulged, but based on the gameplay we saw, we’re in for a sweeping adventure ripe for exploration.

That said, Nintendo has a habit of delaying their Zelda titles. With Tears of the Kingdom already being delayed once, I’m crossing my fingers that the May 12 date sticks. I can’t wait to uncover the secrets that await the game will hold! If you fell in love with Breath of the Wild, you can expect more of the same here, but hold onto your horses because everything will be much grander.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

2023 Games With Unconfirmed Release Dates

STALKER 2

Stalker 2 is an intense first-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans and mutants battle for survival. You take on the role of a mysterious stalker, armed with advanced weaponry and gadgets, as you explore the ruins of a desolate city. You must scavenge for resources, take on missions from powerful factions, and fight against a variety of enemies to unravel the secrets of the world. With its dynamic open-world environment, immersive story, and intense combat, Stalker 2 promises to be an unforgettable experience for gamers. It is expected to release in the first half of the year.

Starfield

Starfield is Xbox’s flagship release for 2023. It’s the next single-player game from Bethesda Game Studios and Todd Howard. Notably, it’s Howard and the team’s first game in 25 years, and he states that Starfield will boast plenty of game systems and originality, likening it to “Skyrim but in space.”

Starfield was initially set for late 2022, but they pushed the date back due to needing more time to polish the game. Between you and me, I’d rather see a delayed game than an unfinished game. Starfield seems like it will be a massive game in scope, so it’s plausible that Bethesda is trying to gun for that smooth launch experience. Like the past Bethesda releases we’ve seen over the years, Starfield will have a deep character creator before you make your way out into its plethora of worlds. You can expect factions to join, complete quests, and recruit companion characters. Starfield is the biggest game yet for Bethesda, and it’s slated to have over 1,000 planets for us to explore and a main questline that runs longer than any previous Bethesda games.

There’s no definitive date for Starfield yet, but it’s known that it’ll release sometime this year. If done right, Starfield could be the game that people will continue to play for years to come. It’s also safe to say that Starfield is arguably the most ambitious game on this list. The gameplay didn’t wow me; to be frank, it gave me No Man’s Sky vibes—the initial release of it. I’m cautiously optimistic about this one, given that it was delayed, but if Bethesda still needs more time, I’d rather see it gets delayed than have an incomplete game.

Redfall

Redfall is an upcoming open-world action-adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic world. Players take control of a powerful warrior in a quest to save humanity from the ravages of a global virus outbreak. The game features a variety of different weapons, enemies, and locations to explore. Players will also be able to upgrade their weapons and abilities as they progress through the game.
