Rocket League Summer Event: It’s Time to Get Radical

By | June 26th, 2019 | Categories: Rocket League

Do you secretly crave to leave behind your own time and travel to the older days? No, I’m not talking about the Medieval Times or the Industrial Revolution, I’m talking about the 80s! Today, in this Rocket League Summer Event guide, I’ll take you through everything you need to know about this wonderful limited time event. Pro tip—there’s a lot to be excited about!

What makes this Event special?

You may be tired of themed events in games. I know that I am. It’s just so predictable. Every Halloween, some game is gonna have a Halloween event. Every Christmas, there’s gonna be a Christmas event. Yeah, it’s fun. Yeah, it can be charming. But you know what else it is? Obvious. That’s what so wonderful about the “Radical” event that Rocket League put out for the summer! It’s themed the Radical 80s. It’s also jam-packed full of fun and exciting things, things that I will promptly go into in just a moment.

If you look at any of the promotional images or videos, it’s all got the same vibe: chill, bro. Just chill. The pictures all conjure up images of sitting on a beach somewhere, a nice drink in your hand, watching the waves come in. This isn’t your ordinary themed event. This is better. Not only does it have an amusing theme, but it also boasts all the environment to go with it too. I don’t know about you, but I hate it when games put out an event and it really has nothing new or different. Maybe some skins. Bleh. With Rocket League, they went all out. In the 9-week event, you heard me right, nine weeks, you’ll have plenty of time to find all the nitty-gritty details.

Is this event for Me?

This is an important clarification here, so I’ll knock it out real quick. Do you have to have been around in the 80s to like this event? Not in the slightest. This is solid whether you lived through the references. Some of the references may not be the easiest to get, but most of them you should be able to understand without a problem, such as the Ghostbusters. I suppose that some people might not be familiar, but by and large, you ought to have some idea of what they are. Other things, like the Knight Rider car, might be a harder reach.

What can I get from the Radical Event?

Like all good events, this Radical Event comes jam-packed with goodies for you and me to enjoy. One of the more interesting ones is that of the “blockbusters,” such as the Goonies, that give memorabilia to deck your car out. Example—some fun wheels that feature ET in that ever-iconic moon-illuminated ride with the bicycle. The goodies you can get range from toppers to decals to wheels to boosts and more. In other words, virtually everything you can adorn your car with comes in this update. That isn’t to say that everything in it you’ll like or be your style but trust me when I say that there’s something in it for you.

What’s Ghost Hunt?

Ghost Hunt is one of the new modes that came out with this update, and it’s exactly what it sounds like Ghostbusters! It’s a Ghostbuster’s themed event, and if you’re wondering how in the blazes that works, here’s how straight from the official Rocket League site: Fire your proton stream to capture the ball and carry it to the opposing team’s spooky containment zone. Score a point by keeping the ball in the containment zone for two seconds. Outscore your opponent before time runs out and you win! In other words, you’re going to have some confusing moments when you figure out the rules, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll probably have a grand old time. At the very least, you can sit back and enjoy all the old memorabilia!

What’s a Golden Egg?

You may or not remember Golden Eggs, but if you have no idea what I’m talking about, here you go! Golden Eggs are a bit like crates, but better. They’re back for this event, and according to Rocket League’s site, they’re going to contain goodies from Elevation, Victory, Turbo, and Nitro crates. If you’re wondering how many of them you can get, unfortunately, yes, you are limited in the number you can receive. You can receive up to five golden eggs for each phase of the event, so get to playing!

How much does it cost?

Okay, so you’ve read through to this point, and maybe you’re the kind to hold up your hand and say, hold on here. Sounds fun and all, but how much am I gonna have to pay for this? That’s the best part! It’s free! To play this event, all you have to do is own the game. That’s it. Boom. Simple as that. You don’t have to buy anything extra or pay for add ons. Just fire it up and get to playing. Now, the one thing that will cost extra is the battle cars. No big surprise there, as every time that new premium battle cars come out, you have to pay to use them, but don’t worry—it’s only a couple bucks at the most.

The Rocket League Summer Event is radical! It comes with lots of stuff to do and get, including new battle cars, memorabilia and gear, Golden Eggs, a Limited Time Mode (Ghost Hunt), and more! For the die-hard Rocket League fans, I’m sure I don’t have much to say to convince them of the merit of this event, but if you haven’t played in a while or are just starting, I recommend giving it a shot. It’s a fun, rewarding event with something for everyone.

Until next time, get out there and have some fun!
