Genshin Impact Razor Build and Lore

Razor

Name: Razor

Vision: Electro

Birthday: 9 September

Constellation: Lupus Minor

Titles: Wolf Boy, Legend of Wolvendom

Razor excels as a Physical damage dealer more than an Electro one in Genshin Impact. He doesn’t use any infusions, though using his Burst makes him attack with constant elemental DMG. Still, most of his damage output is from his AA than anything else. Also, until Cyno was released, he was the only male playable Electro character.

Claw and Thunder (E) has different effects when pressed or held. The former makes Razor attack with an Electro-infused slash, granting him an Electro Sigil. That increases his Energy Recharge, and he can have up to three simultaneously. Holding the button spends all the sigils he has and discharges Electro in an area around him. He gains energy depending on how many Electro Sigils he spends.

With his first passive skill, the cooldown on Claw and Thunder shortens, and using Lightning Fang will reset it. Also, another application of his E is mining, as the charged version can destroy ores in one hit (like Zhongli’s held E). If you don’t have the Geo Archon, Razor is a suitable replacement.

Lightning Fang (Q) summons his wolf soul to fight alongside him. He still deals Physical DMG (as mentioned above) while the soul attacks with Electro. Activating this will also clear his sigils if there are any. You can use Claw and Thunder within its duration. Aside from those mentioned, Razor also gets increased resistance to interruption, immunity to Electro-Charged damage, and increased Electro RES. Lastly, his charged attack is disabled while the skill is active.

Using Razor has a simple but effective rotation. Weave in his E with the regular attack combo if he doesn’t have any charge. On receiving three sigils, hold E (likely to fully charge his Burst), activate Q, and weave in E with normal attacks. Repeat until the enemy is dead.

Of course, you’ll also have to include your other characters in the rotation to support him, especially Rosaria or Diona. Those two can inflict Cryo on enemies even when off-field (with their Burst), so they’re excellent partners to activate the Superconduct reaction. It gives a Phys DMG RES debuff, perfect for Razor.

Genshin Impact Razor Build

There’s only one way to build Razor, and that’s as a Physical on-field DPS. That limits his artifact options to Pale Flame and Bloodstained Chivalry. Gladiator’s Finale is your last resort. It won’t be as good as the other two sets, but it is serviceable.

As mentioned, he is not an Electro DPS like most other characters with the same Vision element, except maybe Fischl. She’s a versatile character with builds for both off and on-field use. Razor isn’t as flexible, so he’s stuck with this build.

Possible Artifacts: Pale Flame, 2x Pale Flame and 2x Bloodstained Chivalry, Gladiator’s Finale, Martial Artist

Main Stats: ATK%, Phys DMG Bonus, Crit Rate/DMG

Substats: Crit DMG/Rate, ATK, EM

Weapons

Razor doesn’t have a signature weapon, though many players attribute Wolf’s Gravestone to him. Though the greatsword’s lore refers to the Knight of Boreas and his Wolf, they still feel it fits Razor because of his upbringing. Still, there are other options for him, such as:

  • Song of Broken Pines
  • Skyward Pride
  • The Unforged
  • Serpent Spine
  • Prototype Archaic
  • Snow-Tombed Starsilver
  • Royal Greatsword
  • Debate Club
  • Akuoumaru
  • Bloodtainted Greatsword
  • Skyrider Greatsword

Genshin Impact Razor’s Lore (Backstory)

Razor grew up in Wolvendom among wolves. When he was younger, he enjoyed a carefree life. Eat when hungry, swim when hot, and find berries when thirsty. He basks in the sun when it’s out and huddles with a furry friend in a tree hollow when it’s raining.

As Andrius had taught, the wolves are his family, his ‘lupical.’ Life was good, even if he couldn’t remember his parents.

Though he knew he was not that smart, Razor realized his differences from the other wolves he knew. His fur grew only on his head, and he had hands instead of paws. It was a thought brought about by the visit of a tall man. The man wanted to bring him back to Mondstadt, but the wolves protected him. He stayed with the pack and decided that whether he was a wolf or human, it didn’t matter.

The tall man did not push Razor to return with him but visited often. He taught the wolf boy to fight with a greatsword and gave him a name. Razor wondered how vital words were because the man never introduced himself before disappearing.

That tall man still taught him an important word, ‘friends.’ Razor did not understand it at first. He asked his master, Lisa, but she never answered. He wondered about the word until he met Klee. The small girl joined him in many activities, and he felt like he was a wolf-pup again, having fun and getting into (and out of) trouble.

He realized friends are almost the same as lupical, so he treats his friends as precious as he treats family.

In the game’s 3.1 patch event, Of Ballads and Brews, a bit more about Razor’s background is revealed. Grand Master Varka was the tall man who taught Razor how to fight with a greatsword. Also, he knew Razor’s parents and was likely the one who sent Lisa to the wolf boy.

During the event, Varka sent a postscript to Lisa, including directions on where to find a box containing some items from Razor’s parents. The latter, along with the Traveler, decide to show Razor the package, which leads to them trying their hand at brewing ‘Thousand Wind Wine.’

Because the wine remembers when it was brewed, Razor (and the player) sees a short conversation between his parents. It showed that the couple was part of the Adventurers’ Guild, and they were the ones to choose the name ‘Razor.’ He also inherited his white hair from his mother. Still, any other resemblance is not shown because we only see their backs.

Razor is glad for the glimpse of his parents but still remains content to enjoy life with his friends, his lupical.
